Borderlands 4 Settings Changes ‘Fix’ the Game for Console Players

The new release, Borderlands 4, is proving very popular, but some players are discovering ways to make it even better on consoles. Many have noted that the game doesn’t feel quite right when using a controller, and adjusting a few settings can significantly improve how it plays.

I finally got my hands on *Borderlands 4*! It came out on September 12th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, and thankfully, it’s coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 in October too. So far, critics seem to really like it – it’s sitting around 85 on OpenCritic, which is awesome. But honestly, the fan reaction has been a little mixed. A lot of us are finding the gunplay feels a bit off sometimes, and I really miss having a mini-map by default – it’s just not the same without it!

How to Improve Borderlands 4 on Consoles

  • Go to “Controls,” “Basic,” and set all Horizontal and Vertical Sensitivity levels to 2. Set Cursor Speed to 0.5. Set Cursor Friction to 0.5.
  • In “Controls,” go to “Advanced.” Pick both Left and Right Stick, and set all Deadzone settings to 1% and 0.5.
  • In the “Gameplay” section, go to “Basic,” then “Toggle Radar Display” and turn it on to get the traditional radar back.
  • Finally, go to “Accessibility,” “Gameplay,” then turn “Grapple View Tilt” Off, and “Camera Head-bob” to >75%.

A player named Buddy_Kryyst has discovered some helpful settings to improve the experience in *Borderlands 4*. To optimize controls, players should go to Controls > Basic and set Horizontal and Vertical Sensitivity to 2, Cursor Speed to 0.5, and Cursor Friction to 0.5. Then, in Controls > Advanced, set the Deadzone to 1% for the left stick and 0.5% for the right stick. Additionally, turning on the radar and, in Accessibility > Gameplay, disabling Grapple View Tilt and setting Camera Head-bob to 75% can further enhance gameplay. Buddy_Kryyst notes that while you can set the Deadzone to 0, this might cause control drift on some controllers.

Buddy_Kryyst’s settings guide was a hit with the gaming community, earning over 1,700 upvotes. Players agreed the tips significantly improved their experience. Many others have also pointed out that the game lacks Field of View (FOV) sliders, which could further boost performance. Most *Borderlands 4* fans feel the current FOV is too narrow, making gameplay feel awkward.

Even with a few initial problems, *Borderlands 4* has become very popular. Over the weekend, it reached a peak of more than 300,000 players at the same time on Steam, and player numbers have stayed consistently high since then.

A recent update for the PC version of *Borderlands 4* has improved stability, but many players are still experiencing problems with the console version. Hopefully, future updates will address these console issues.
