In Borderlands 4‘s Moxxi’s Big Encore, you can spend Eridium to re-fight bosses that are significantly stronger, but offer even better rewards. Currently, Shadowpelt is the featured Weekly Big Encore boss (as of September 21, 2025). Players are likely wondering where to find him, the best way to defeat him, and what kind of loot he drops to determine if the challenge is worthwhile. We’ll show you Shadowpelt’s location, provide a strategy for an easy victory, and detail all of his unique loot drops.
How to Find Shadowpelt
Shadowpelt Location in Borderlands 4
You’ll find Shadowpelt inside Whistler’s Maw, an old mine located in the Cuspid Climb area of Terminus Range. To get there, you first need to complete the initial main quest, ‘Shadow of the Mountain,’ which will give you access to the mine. This guide provides a complete walkthrough of Whistler’s Maw, showing you how to find the cave, navigate its tunnels, and quickly gather Shadowpelt for faster loot drops.
The cave is easy to get through. Just follow the main path until you reach a vent you need to pull aside. Crawl through it, and you’ll find the Ammo and Medic vending machines, as well as Moxxi’s Encore. If Shadowpelt is the weekly boss for Moxxi’s Encore, you can spend 100 Eridium to make the fight harder – increasing Shadowpelt’s health and damage – for a chance at better loot, including more Legendary items.
How to Beat Shadowpelt
When Shadowpelt enters the arena, he’ll be invisible. You can only see him by breaking his Shield (shown as a blue health bar). Use a Shock weapon to quickly destroy the Shield, as it’s very effective against it. Once the Shield is down, Shadowpelt will be visible and take damage for 15 seconds. After that, his Shield will recharge, making him invisible again, and you’ll need to break it once more. Remember that Shadowpelt’s actual health (shown as red) is Flesh, so switch to an Incendiary weapon to do the most damage.
When fighting Shadowpelt, focus on close and medium-range weapons that deal a lot of damage quickly. Shadowpelt is incredibly fast and will constantly rush you, making it difficult to land slower, powerful shots without getting knocked down. Be aware that it jumps while invisible to fire dangerous Shock Orbs in all directions, so prioritize abilities and shields that reduce incoming damage. Shadowpelt also attacks with seeking spikes from its tail and powerful slams, so use your dash and jetpack to stay mobile and reach higher ground to avoid these attacks and the Shock Orbs.
All Loot Drops from Shadowpelt
Legendary | Type | Description |
---|---|---|
Slippy | Grenade | Swordfish – Deals Melee Damage on detonation |
Sparky Shield | Shield | Short Circuit – While Energy Shield is not full, it periodically Shocks nearby enemies |
Vamoose | Sniper Rifle | Scarce |
Okay, so Shadowpelt can drop up to three Legendary items, but it’s totally random whether you’ll get any of them. Honestly, you’re either going to get super lucky, or you’ll be farming this boss a *lot* if you’re hoping to snag one. These are the *only* Legendaries Shadowpelt can drop, so double-check they’re actually what you need before you start grinding. The Sparky Shield is pretty solid if your build can take advantage of it, but I’d say you can probably skip Slippy and Vamoose – they’re not worth the hassle for me.
