A trailer has been released for the first story pack for Borderlands 4, titled Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned, and is expected to launch in March. Since its release on September 12, 2025, Borderlands 4 has faced some challenges and controversies. While updates haven’t always pleased players, the recent holiday season brought a new Bounty Pack – a smaller story with fresh content – with more additions planned for the future.
Gearbox has shared its plans for 2026, including a new timeline for upcoming updates. Following the recent addition of the popular Photo Mode in a January update for Borderlands 4, players can look forward to Bounty Pack 2 later this month and the game’s first major expansion soon after. While both of these will be paid downloadable content, Gearbox will also release a significant free update alongside Bounty Pack 2, introducing Pearlescent rarity gear and weapons to give players new items to collect. Plus, Gearbox is preparing to reveal details about the first Story Pack.
Borderlands 4 Teases Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned
The first trailer for the upcoming story pack, Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned, for Borderlands 4 has been released, giving fans their first glimpse. The short teaser shows a frigid, snowy landscape and quick flashes of disturbing indoor scenes – rooms and hallways covered in blood and strange growths. Fans will also be excited to hear that Mancubus Bloodtooth, a memorable character from the Borderlands series, is returning in some capacity, as he narrates the entire trailer.
Mancubus Bloodtooth first appeared in the Borderlands 3 expansion, Guns, Love, and Tentacles, where he ran a place called The Lodge. He quickly became popular with players thanks to his strange behavior and distinctive way of talking. While he mainly gave out quests in that expansion, some hidden audio logs found on Xylourgos suggest there might be a darker side to his character.

The final Borderlands 3 DLC, Psycho Krieg and the Fantastic Fustercluck, might offer a hint. In the DLC, players meet Maya, who recounts a strange experience on Athenas. She stayed at a mysterious hotel with an unsettling owner who offered her a free night in exchange for some books. When she woke up, the hotel was gone. Many believe this encounter involved Mancubus Bloodtooth and that his establishment, The Lodge, can travel to different places. This new DLC might be connected to that same ability.
Image via Gearbox Software Good news for fans! More information about Borderlands 4, including the first playable character added after release, is coming in March. This new character, C4SH, is a former casino dealer turned Vault Hunter. He’s a robot who uses cards and dice in combat, and Gearbox Software says his abilities will even involve elements of luck, making him a unique and potentially exciting character to play.
