Looter shooters are built around letting players customize everything to become as powerful as possible. Players constantly search for better weapons, improve their abilities, and change how they play. Borderlands 4 definitely offers that same level of customization.
In *Borderlands 4*, players will constantly need to refine their character builds to overcome new obstacles. This means finding weapons with specific elemental effects and investing in skills that are effective against different enemy types. Beyond gameplay adjustments, the game also offers plenty of ways to customize how your character looks. While *Borderlands 4* introduces many new customization features, some popular options from previous games aren’t included.
Borderlands 4 Adds Some New Customization Features
As a big fan, I’ve noticed the character customization is pretty similar in *Borderlands 4* to what we had in *Borderlands 3*. You can still unlock a huge number of head customizations and styles for each Vault Hunter just by playing through the story and completing challenges. Plus, you can change your character’s main, secondary, and accent colors right from the start. But honestly, a really cool addition this time is that you can unlock different body types for each Vault Hunter without needing to buy any DLC – in *Borderlands 3*, those were only available as paid extras!

ECHO-4, your robotic sidekick who often uses cloaking, can be customized in a few ways. You can unlock different paint schemes, body styles, and attachments for it. Many of the attachments are just for fun, like putting a stack of fish on its head!

A key new feature in *Borderlands 4* is the Digirunner, a hover vehicle you can call upon in almost any open area. Players can personalize its look with different paint jobs and modify its stats by swapping out the Hover Drive. You can also unlock entirely new Digirunner models, changing its appearance without affecting how it performs in the game.
Players can also adorn each of their guns with unlocked Weapon Skins in Borderlands 4.
In *Borderlands 4*, you can change weapon skins by going to the customization menu and selecting the skin you want for each gun separately.
Borderlands 4 Takes Away More Customization Features Than It Adds

As you can see from the list, *Borderlands 4* offers a lot of ways to customize your experience. However, while adding new features like the Digirunner and ECHO-4, the game has also removed some customization options that fans really enjoyed.
Okay, so in *Borderlands 4*, they totally got rid of Weapon Trinkets – bummer! They also took away the option to pick multiple colors for your character’s look, which is kinda disappointing. And while the new Digirunner vehicle has some cool customization options, it doesn’t let you customize its weapons or armor like you could in *Borderlands 3*. You can’t even add a mod to it, which feels like a step back.

Okay, so the missing stuff isn’t game-breaking, especially considering how Borderlands 4 is running on PC right now. But honestly, it’s a little disappointing to see those features gone. It kind of feels like with this installment, they’re making progress in some areas, but then taking a couple of steps back when it comes to how much you can customize your character and gear.
