The Borderlands series is well-known for its unusual weapons, such as the Bane with its loud, ear-piercing noises or the Probe with its controversial and suggestive appearance. These unique weapons have been a significant part of what makes the series stand out. But then, something even more peculiar came along – Fish Grenades in Borderlands 4! To make sure you didn’t miss it, let me emphasize again: Borderlands 4 comes equipped with Fish Grenades!
During an interview with IGN at Gamescom, Randy Pitchford of Gearbox revealed that one unusual weapon we might find in Borderlands 4 is called “Fish Grenades.” When asked if these were explosives that turn into fish or vice versa, he answered affirmatively. This intriguing news has led me to reconsider my expectations for loot in Borderlands 4. Instead of striving to find the most potent weapon, I’m now eager to explore the limits of creativity by seeking out the strangest gun possible, even if it isn’t the strongest one available.
Borderlands 4’s Fish Grenades Are Hopefully Just the Tip of the Iceberg

I’m Exhausted With Borderlands’ Weapon Grind
Despite the fact that weapons are crucial in shaping the Borderlands experience, I must admit that I find myself weary of it being such a significant aspect. Playing and completing a Borderlands game, only to find that the post-game revolves around acquiring the strongest weapon, leaves me feeling like I’m running on a treadmill. After I’ve conquered everything in the game, the idea of striving for an even more powerful weapon than the ones I already possess seems pointless. As I delved into Borderlands 3’s post-game and looked ahead to Borderlands 4, this question has been at the top of my mind: What purpose does it serve to keep chasing after better weapons? This is why the concept of Fish Grenades intrigues me; they could represent a change in the grind.

Borderlands 4’s Weird Weapons Give Me a New Grind
Couldn’t it be that Pitchford immediately thought of Fish Grenades as unusual weapons in the context of Borderlands 4? While these grenades might set the bar for weirdness, they might not necessarily be the most peculiar. If these grenades indeed wiggle like fish in your hand before you throw them and explode into a swarm of piranhas devouring the flesh off your enemies, I am excited to obtain one. However, it’s possible that Fish Grenades are merely the beginning of an assortment of weapons that could offer a unique gameplay experience in Borderlands 4, potentially keeping me engaged for extended periods.

Instead of asking for a “Crying Onion Grenade” or a “Trombone Champ shotgun,” how about these options for unique weapons in the next Borderlands game:
1. A “Tearful Onion Launcher” that detonates and causes enemies to weep profusely, reducing their aiming precision.
2. A “Blastbone Trumpet” that produces trombone-like sounds upon firing, with the pitch changing based on the angle of aim. (A nod to the game Trombone Champ)
3. A “Voodoo Dollifridge Rifle” that fires a specific enemy type and damages all enemies of that kind when shot.
In my quest for the most eccentric weapon in Borderlands 5, I’m determined to spend countless hours scouring the game, as I believe even the most outlandish creations are possible within its vast arsenal of 30 billion unique guns!
