Boruto Hokage Level Characters Better Than Shikamaru

Shikamaru Nara is known as one of the most intelligent characters in the anime and manga series, Naruto. His cleverness was clear early on in the story, and the creator, Masashi Kishimoto, continued to feature him prominently throughout the Naruto Shippuden series.

Watching the Boruto series, I always found Shikamaru’s role as an advisor to the Seventh Hokage, Naruto, interesting. He was there to keep Naruto from acting too impulsively and potentially endangering the village. Then, after Naruto was gone, Shikamaru actually became Hokage, and honestly, it didn’t feel right. He’s undeniably intelligent, but he just didn’t seem to have that inherent quality of leadership and self-sacrifice that I always associated with the Hokage. It really made me think there were other characters who would have been a much better fit for the position.

This post contains spoilers for Naruto.

Sakura Haruno

  • Excellent chakra control
  • Ready to face danger

Sakura Haruno is a key hero in the Naruto series. As a member of Team 7, she was vital in the Fourth Great Ninja War. Her powerful healing abilities and physical strength were incredibly valuable during the conflict. The heroes might not have succeeded—and Kaguya Otsutsuki might have won—without her help.

Sakura is the most physically powerful female ninja in the series. Thanks to training with Tsunade, she recognized her own areas for improvement and chose to develop her unique strengths instead of trying to compete with Naruto and Sasuke. She honed her chakra control, which significantly boosted the power of her attacks. This exceptional control also makes her highly resistant to illusion techniques (Genjutsu).

Sakura is a powerful and dedicated ninja, fiercely protective of her village and the people she cares about. She’s repeatedly risked her life to keep them safe. A firm believer in the values of their hidden leaf village, she truly believes she’s better suited to lead as Hokage than Shikamaru.

Konohamaru Sarutobi

  • An elite Jonin
  • Strong believer in the Will of Fire

Konohamaru Sarutobi is a character who’s really grown on fans. Initially, many viewers found him annoying when he first appeared. However, he gradually became well-liked, and a memorable moment was when he confidently predicted Naruto would become the Sixth Hokage, with Konohamaru himself aiming for the seventh position.

While Konohamaru might not be as strong as previous Hokage, he’s definitely more powerful than Shikamaru. He’s mastered the Rasengan, a very effective jutsu, and has a large chakra supply, allowing him to fight for extended periods.

Konohamaru is the grandson of Hiruzen Sarutobi, a legendary ninja who deeply believed in protecting others. Inspired by both his grandfather and Naruto, Konohamaru shares this strong sense of duty. He’s incredibly compassionate and always eager to assist anyone in need, even if it means facing danger. Because of these admirable traits, he’s arguably more suited for leadership than Shikamaru.

Kakashi Hatake

  • An experienced leader
  • Respected by the Hidden Leaf

Kakashi Hatake is often considered one of the most skilled and famous Jonin in the Naruto series. He immediately stands out as incredibly calm and collected, never seeming rattled by difficult situations. He’s a fast thinker, able to develop effective plans very quickly.

Kakashi became incredibly skilled with the Sharingan, mastering it to the point where he was considered equal to any Uchiha clan member and earned the nickname “Kakashi of the Sharingan.” Even after losing the ability, he continued to train and eventually developed his own unique technique, Purple Lightning.

Kakashi previously held the position of Hokage, and it was possible for him to be appointed again. We saw a similar situation when Minato died and Hiruzen stepped in. With his experience, Kakashi would have been a strong leader, and his return likely would have lifted the spirits of the village.

Hinata Hyuuga

  • Hails from a Noble clan
  • Mastered the use of Byakugan

Before marrying Naruto, Hinata Hyuuga was expected to lead the Hyuuga Clan, as she was the daughter of the clan leader, Hizashi Hyuuga. However, after her marriage, she didn’t become the leader, and Hizashi continued to lead the clan.

Many believe Hinata is weak, but she’s actually quite powerful. She’s skillfully trained in Byakugan, allowing her to precisely target an opponent’s vital points, and she’s surprisingly tough, able to endure a good amount of damage.

Hinata would make a great Hokage because she consistently puts others before herself, even risking her own life to protect them. Plus, it would be exciting to see a female leader other than Tsunade, and historically significant – she’d be the first Hokage from one of the Leaf Village’s prominent clans.
