This article contains spoilers from the Boruto series.
Summary
- The new Team 7 in Boruto has the potential to surpass the old Team 7 in terms of strength.
- Boruto, Kawaki, and others are already stronger than Naruto and Sasuke, indicating a potential for overpowered characters.
- While Boruto characters are strong, the series falls short in storytelling compared to the original Naruto series.
It’s evident that Team 7 plays a significant role throughout the Naruto series. Right from the start of the storyline, Team 7 was introduced in Naruto as a key group of main characters consisting of Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha, Sakura Haruno, and Kakashi Hatake as their leader. This team served as the backbone for the Naruto series, with all major events revolving around them. From tackling simple missions like chasing after lost cats to saving the world, they accomplished it all. Their actions endeared them to fans, making them a memorable and iconic squad within the entirety of the Naruto franchise, including Boruto.
In the realm of Boruto, I’ve noticed that while their indelible legacy remains unmatched, there are areas where the next generation, Team 7, exhibits a promising potential to surpass their predecessors in strength and abilities.
The Strengths Of The Old Team 7
- The Old Team 7 Was Magnificent In Terms Of Power
- At their Peak, Even Kaguya Couldn’t Beat Them
In their own story, Team 7 exhibited an unmatched level of power. Each character’s peak performance in the team was unequaled within the narrative. The main character, Naruto Uzumaki, reached astonishing heights during the Fourth Great Ninja War. He acquired the power of the Six Paths and achieved Six Paths Sage Mode. With these abilities, he was capable of reviving dying lives, creating things out of nothing, and imbuing them with life, battling formidable opponents like the Ten-Tails Jinchuriki, and even standing his ground against figures such as Kaguya. Without a doubt, Naruto became an immense force by the end of the series, and arguably the strongest shinobi to have ever lived. Sasuke was also at a similar level, although slightly behind. He too tapped into the power of the Sage and awakened the Rinnegan. His eternal Mangekyo Sharingan was a significant threat, and he consistently outsmarted most opponents he faced due to his keen intellect.
Team 7 is finally back! – Naruto Uzumaki
In terms of Sakura, she exceeded the position of the Fifth Hokage by reaching the level of Bakugou and demonstrating her immense power during war. At a certain point, Sakura matched Naruto and Sasuke’s strength, but eventually lagged behind them. However, it is worth noting that she was undeniably one of the strongest combatants in the war, which is truly commendable.
Simultaneously, Kakashi significantly boosted his power by mastering Kamui, enabling him to manipulate it on larger entities like the Gedo Statue and even use it repeatedly in a single day. Additionally, at his zenith, Kakashi received Six Paths Chakra from Obito, coupled with the capacity to wield two Mangekyo Sharingan. This extraordinary power allowed him to engage in combat against Kaguya, inflict severe injuries upon her, and contribute significantly to her sealing. Indeed, Kakashi’s strength during this battle was remarkable, a testament to his formidable abilities that few, if any, could match.
Without a doubt, the power of the original Team 7 was truly remarkable, and in the Naruto series, they stood out as the most impressive team that ever graced our screens.
The New Team 7 In Boruto
The New Team 7 Is A Mighty Force
This revamped Team 7 in Boruto consists of Boruto Uzumaki, Sarada Uchiha, and Mitsuki, Orochimaru’s son. Leading the team is Konohamaru, who aspires to be the Hokage of their village. Though theoretically not as strong as the original Team 7, the series has shown that this new group has already accomplished much. Boruto, our protagonist, has reached a remarkable level of power.
In the span of three years, Boruto has progressed significantly in his skills. Now, he can easily challenge characters as powerful as Code without resorting to his limiters. In fact, he holds his own against formidable opponents like Hidari, a Shinju, and even comes close to defeating him in combat. Notably, Boruto hasn’t even begun to harness the full potential of his Karma power yet, which fans anticipate will be a significant part of his growth. At this point, it seems that Boruto surpasses Naruto’s Six Paths Sage Mode form in strength.
I don’t want to be Hokage. I wanna be a cool ninja like Uncle Sasuke. – Boruto Uzumaki
Sarada Uchiha is still developing her skills and has yet to fully show what she’s capable of. Compared to Boruto, Sakura Haruno, Sasuke from Team 7, she’s currently not at their level. Mitsuki, however, has demonstrated his ability to use Sage Mode, but he too needs more growth at this stage. Konohamaru, the team leader, is also improving and may one day surpass Kakashi, given time for development, as he harbors aspirations of becoming the Hokage.
In the Boruto series, there’s another member of Team 7 named Kawaki who plays a crucial role. He possesses strength comparable to Boruto Uzumaki and powers similar to Isshiki. As he continues to master his abilities, he will undoubtedly surpass Sasuke Uchiha in power, if not exceed him significantly. It’s worth noting that both Boruto and Kawaki have surpassed Naruto and Sasuke from the end of the 4th Great Ninja War in terms of strength. If we also consider Sarada and Mitsuki who are expected to reach similar levels, it seems like an overwhelming situation.
Strength Isn’t Everything In Storytelling
While Strong, The Boruto Characters Are Subpar At Best
It’s worth noting that fan appreciation of media can sometimes skew ratings. For example, Boruto’s characters are exceptionally strong; even surpassing Naruto Uzumaki’s Baryon Mode, they outshine every other ninja in the narrative significantly. Characters like Sarada and Mitsuki are poised to reach impressive levels of strength, perhaps even eclipsing Sakura. However, strength isn’t the only factor that counts. In a story, it’s the storytelling that truly matters, and this is an area where Boruto struggles. To be fair, Boruto has its merits, but compared to Naruto, it falls short in terms of quality. The story of Boruto pales in comparison to what Naruto achieved, and it’s unlikely to garner the same level of popularity as the original series. Although the storyline is intriguing, it lacks the depth of character, the compelling narratives, and the world-building prowess that made Naruto so captivating.
Despite being a sequel to Naruto, Boruto has generally fallen short of expectations among fans, yet they’ll still tune in to watch. However, it’s unlikely that it will achieve the same level of success as its predecessor. Characters in Boruto may be more powerful and Team 7 might surpass the old Team 7, but in other aspects, Naruto still outshines it significantly.
You can access Boruto, the latest manga series, through Viz Media. Fans can read it officially and without charge on both Shonen Jump and Manga Plus apps. The next installment of Boruto, titled “Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter 18,” is scheduled to be released on January 20, 2025.
