Boruto: Kishimoto Has Already Revealed Naruto And Sasuke’s Return Date

This article contains spoilers from the Boruto series.

The new arc of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex is packed with action, featuring non-stop battles in Konoha. The Shinju are already proving to be powerful forces, and we can expect to see even more of their abilities in upcoming chapters. Currently, Konoha is under attack by Shinju Mamushi, who will likely demonstrate incredible powers that help the main characters become stronger.

Although Boruto has held some appeal, most fans are eagerly awaiting the return of Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha. These two characters are central to the Naruto series, and their absence has significantly impacted the story’s feel. Fans have been counting down the days until Naruto and Sasuke reappear, excited to see them in action again. It appears the author, Kishimoto, has already revealed when they’ll be back, though the timing might not be what fans were hoping for, it’s something they’ll have to accept.

Kishimoto Sealed Naruto And Sasuke Away

  • Naruto Uzumaki was sealed away by Kawaki
  • Sasuke was turned into a tree

Early in the Boruto series, Naruto and Sasuke faced a devastating fate. Although they initially performed well against threats like the Otsutsuki clan, they were repeatedly defeated by stronger enemies. The battle against Isshiki Otsutsuki pushed Naruto to use Baryon Mode, a powerful technique that came at a terrible cost. To save the world, Naruto permanently lost the power of Kurama, the Nine-Tailed Beast.

Losing Kurama hit Naruto hard. He was just so drained afterward that he couldn’t keep up with the kind of threats we were facing. That’s actually why Kawaki did what he did – he sealed Naruto, along with Hinata, away to this other dimension, Daikokuten. We haven’t seen them since, and honestly, it’s really worrying.

Sasuke also faced a difficult outcome during the fight with Isshiki. While Isshiki defeated him quickly, Momoshiki then dealt a severe blow by destroying his Rinnegan, significantly weakening Sasuke. After a time skip, Sasuke spent roughly a year training Boruto. He later battled Code, performing exceptionally well – even managing to take one of Code’s eyes and defeat numerous Claw Grimes – but was ultimately overwhelmed and transformed into a tree, becoming part of the Shinju Hidari’s DNA. That’s his current situation.

Sasuke Uchiha Will Return Before Naruto Uzumaki

  • Sasuke’s return is on the cards at the moment

Fans expecting Naruto and Sasuke to return at the same time will likely be disappointed. The story strongly suggests Sasuke Uchiha will reappear before Naruto Uzumaki. This is because Sasuke’s return is connected to defeating Shinju Hidari, whereas Naruto needs additional plot developments before he can return.

I’ve taught you everything I know. Now it’s your turn to practice and perfect those skills. — Sasuke Uchiha to Boruto

Boruto Uzumaki needs to obtain the Thorn Soul Bulb from Hidari to bring Sasuke back. He nearly succeeded before when his Uzuhiko defeated Hidari, but Hidari was able to fully regenerate. However, Hidari won’t be so lucky next time – he’ll be completely defeated. Whether Sarada Uchiha or Boruto Uzumaki delivers the final blow, the Thorn Soul Bulb will be recovered. Once they have it, Sasuke’s return will be secured.

Before Sasuke comes back, there are some immediate problems to deal with. Right now, the Shinju Mamushi is causing chaos in Konoha and needs to be defeated before they can move on to the next threat, Hidari. Once Mamushi is taken care of, Sasuke’s return can finally happen. Fans are predicting it will take around a year, maybe a year and a half, before Sasuke Uchiha is back, and that’s giving them a lot to look forward to.

Naruto Will Return Near The End Of The Series

  • Naruto Uzumaki won’t come back before the climax of the series

Unlike Sasuke Uchiha, it doesn’t seem Naruto Uzumaki will be back within the next year and a half. The fight between Kawaki and Boruto in the Boruto prologue hinted at this – Kawaki told Boruto he’d send him to the same place he sent the Seventh Hokage, meaning Naruto is still sealed away. This suggests the Shinju threat has been resolved, and Boruto has fully unlocked his Karma powers, but Naruto remains absent.

I will send you to the same place as Lord Seventh, Boruto. — Kawaki to Boruto

The conflict between Boruto and Kawaki will likely happen towards the end of the series, echoing the iconic fight between Naruto and Sasuke. It’s expected to be the most significant battle of the entire story. Since Naruto hasn’t reappeared yet, it seems unlikely he’ll return before the series concludes, which is disappointing for many fans. Kawaki will only be freed by Boruto defeating him and helping him regain control, and this will ultimately lead to the Seventh Hokage’s release. Sadly, this means we won’t see much further development for the beloved Hokage in this story.

2026 Will Be Rough For Naruto And Sasuke Fans

Watching the Boruto series, it’s pretty obvious that both Naruto and Sasuke will return eventually, but not at the same time. It looks like we won’t see them back before 2026, that’s almost certain. For Sasuke to reappear, it seems like Mamushi needs to be taken care of first, and that will lead into a new story arc focusing on Hidari’s downfall. Considering all that needs to happen, it’s going to take well over the next eleven months.

Naruto Uzumaki won’t be back for quite a while – his return isn’t expected until near the end of the Two Blue Vortex storyline. Fans will likely have to wait three to four years to see him again, which is disappointing. While Naruto’s absence continues, Sasuke fans can expect their favorite Uchiha to return sooner. Unfortunately, 2026 won’t bring a return for either Naruto or Sasuke, which is bad news for fans of both characters.

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex is the continuation of the Boruto story, created by Mikio Ikemoto with supervision from Masashi Kishimoto. Picking up three years after the events of the Omnipotence arc, the series focuses on Boruto Uzumaki’s efforts to protect the world, alongside his complicated relationship with Kawaki. Chapter 31 is scheduled to be released on February 20, 2026, at 10 AM EST / 3 PM UTC. Fans can read it for free on the Manga Plus and Shonen Jump apps.
