Boruto: Kishimoto Reveals A Ninja Prodigy Even Bigger Than Itachi Uchiha

This article contains spoilers from the Boruto series.

I’ve been really enjoying Boruto: Two Blue Vortex so far, and it seems like a lot of fans are too! Boruto Uzumaki is quickly becoming a really compelling character, and I’m excited to see how he grows as a ninja. It’s only natural that people are comparing this new group of ninjas to the older generation we know and love from Naruto. This new generation is seriously talented, and it feels like they’re well on their way to becoming even stronger than their predecessors, just like we’ve seen happen before in the series.

Even a gifted ninja like Itachi Uchiha has been eclipsed by Boruto Uzumaki, the series’ main character. Though Itachi was considered a once-in-a-generation genius, Boruto has proven to be even more talented, and he’s on track to become one of the greatest ninja prodigies ever.

Boruto Uzumaki Is A Bigger Prodigy Than Itachi Uchiha

Boruto Uzumaki and Naruto Uzumaki are very different. Unlike Naruto, who started with limited natural ability, Boruto was born with immense talent as a ninja. He showed exceptional skill from a young age, even mastering three different nature types while still at the Academy – a remarkably rare feat. Boruto also learns how to use chakra incredibly quickly. For example, he developed the Vanishing Rasengan while still a Genin, a complex technique that requires advanced control over nature transformation.

Those blue eyes shall one day take everything dear from you. — Momoshiki Otsutsuki to Boruto

I’ve been watching Boruto Uzumaki, and it’s clear he’s an incredibly gifted ninja. He’s even gotten a handle on Karma, and now, as an adult, he’s strong enough to battle opponents like the Otsutsuki. He’s learned advanced techniques like the Rasengan Uzuhiko, and he’s even developed his own take on the Flying Thunder God, though it’s not quite as powerful. Beyond his skills, his ability to read a fight and anticipate his opponent is amazing. Honestly, I think Boruto is a more naturally gifted ninja than even Itachi was, and that’s what makes him so valuable to Konoha.

Boruto Has Created His Own Jutsu

Itachi was incredibly talented and wiser than Boruto, but Boruto is a more naturally gifted combatant and ninja. Boruto has already created powerful new techniques, like Uzuhiko, and impressively learned all of Sasuke’s jutsu in just one year. When it comes to ninjutsu, Boruto is exceptionally skilled, and his potential for growth is far greater than Itachi’s was.

I call it Rasengan: Uzuhiko. You’ve been hit with the planet’s own energy. — Boruto Uzumaki

Boruto Uzumaki Is Otsutsuki Level

Boruto has become incredibly powerful, reaching a level comparable to the Otsutsuki clan. He’s proven capable of defeating strong opponents like Kinshiki on his own and can compete with even Momoshiki and Isshiki. Considering he achieved all this at such a young age, many fans believe he’s surpassed Itachi as the greatest prodigy in ninja history.

Boruto Is A Ninja Who Protects From The Shadows Like Itachi

Fans often compare Boruto Uzumaki to Itachi Uchiha, and for good reason. Both share a similar ninja philosophy: they shoulder the burden of blame to protect their village, operating quietly behind the scenes. While both are exceptionally skilled shinobi, it’s this shared dedication and willingness to sacrifice that truly sets them apart and draws the comparison.

While Boruto might be a more naturally gifted fighter than Itachi, Itachi possessed greater wisdom, though that doesn’t ultimately matter as much. Both characters are incredibly important to the story of Konoha, and that’s why fans love them both.

The next chapter of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, chapter 28, will be available on November 20, 2025, at 10 AM Eastern Time / 3 PM Coordinated Universal Time. Fans can read it for free on the Manga Plus and Shonen Jump apps.
