This article contains spoilers from the Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga.
The *Boruto* manga continues its story without featuring Naruto Uzumaki, even though fans have repeatedly asked for his return. It’s been a long time since readers have seen Naruto actively involved in events in Konoha or fighting battles, leading some to believe the author, Kishimoto, is planning a major, impactful reappearance for Naruto later in the *Boruto* series.
The story has moved past Naruto Uzumaki. His time as the central figure is over. By sealing Naruto away and with Sasuke facing his own challenges, the creators have signaled the end of that generation’s role as protectors, for the time being. Fans may not be happy about it, but Naruto isn’t likely to return to action soon.
Boruto Is No Longer About Naruto Uzumaki
Naruto Has Long Passed the Torch to Boruto

- Boruto is not Naruto Uzumaki’s story.
- Boruto moves on without Naruto Uzumaki on the front line.
For many anime and manga lovers, Naruto Uzumaki was a huge part of their childhood. They watched him grow from a mischievous, isolated kid into a famous hero who brought the ninja world together. That’s why fans are so upset that Naruto hasn’t been around much in *Boruto*, especially with such a dangerous enemy causing problems.
While fans might wish Naruto was still the central character like he was in the original series, it’s become clear that *Boruto* is now about Boruto Uzumaki and his generation. The story has always focused on Boruto, his challenges, his beliefs, and what it’s like to grow up in a new Konoha built by the previous heroes.

It’s understandable that fans miss Naruto and the original characters, especially since they still feel so important even though they aren’t the main focus of *Boruto* anymore. Many are hoping for a significant power boost for Naruto that would remind everyone of his strength. However, the story has clearly shifted to focus on Boruto, so it’s likely Naruto won’t be getting another big upgrade anytime soon.
Naruto’s Absence Pushes Boruto to Grow Stronger
Kishimoto Used Naruto’s Sealing to Level Up the Next Generation

It’s obvious that the author, Kishimoto, used the threat of danger – specifically sealing techniques – to push Boruto and the new generation of ninja to become stronger. Without Naruto available to help, it’s simpler to create challenging, life-threatening situations that force Boruto to improve. If Naruto were present, those critical moments for Boruto would be less impactful, as he would likely intervene to protect him.
Boruto isn’t the only one who’s become more powerful since Naruto’s disappearance. Sarada has also adjusted to a more challenging world, taking on greater responsibility. She’s proven to be unaffected by Eida’s incredible power and has awakened the powerful Mangekyo Sharingan, specifically its Ohirume form. Plus, Himawari has significantly grown in strength, now embodying the power of the tailed beast Kurama.
Until I reach my dream, I refuse to die.—Naruto Uzumaki
With Naruto gone, Boruto and his friends are experiencing what it’s like to live in a dangerous world without their strongest protector. They’re realizing how fragile things can be, and every choice they make now feels much more important. It looks like Naruto will be away for quite some time, as the creators, Kishimoto and Ikemoto, intend to keep him sealed for the foreseeable future.
Naruto Could Return Near the End of Boruto
Naruto’s Finale Comeback Is One Way to End Boruto Right

Many fans now believe that Naruto Uzumaki will reappear towards the end of the Boruto manga, likely after the major battle between Boruto and Kawaki. They think bringing Naruto back would be a fitting way to conclude the series, offering a touching reunion between father and son after years apart.
Furthermore, Boruto is determined to rebuild the Uzumaki clan’s legacy, and bringing Naruto back too soon would weaken his drive. Naruto’s absence actually motivates Boruto to become stronger, both to protect the world and to ensure he doesn’t meet an early fate. A triumphant return for Naruto should be the reward for all of Boruto’s hard work, and it makes sense that it happens after Boruto has won his biggest battle.
