Boruto: Naruto’s Comeback Is a Final-Arc Moment, And the Setup Is Obvious

This article contains spoilers from the Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga.

Naruto Uzumaki is considered one of the best anime characters ever created, so many fans were surprised when the Boruto series sidelined him. While he’s been gone, Boruto Uzumaki and a new generation of ninja have been proving themselves with their own battles and growing strength. However, fans are eagerly awaiting Naruto’s return to the story.

After 30 chapters of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, fans are still waiting for Naruto to reappear. While Konoha faces increasing danger, it seems unlikely he’ll return soon. However, it’s clear Naruto’s comeback is being reserved for a bigger, more important moment later in the story – perhaps even the very end of Boruto.

Naruto’s Absence Continues in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex

Naruto Uzumaki’s Sealing Happened in Boruto Chapter 77

I’m still eagerly awaiting Naruto’s return in Boruto! It feels like forever since he and Hinata were sealed away in the Daikokuten Dimension. I know we all want to see him back in the action, but honestly, I get why the series is taking its time. They really want to focus on Boruto and the new generation, and it’s working! They’re proving they can carry the story forward without needing Naruto to solve everything, and that’s incredibly exciting to watch.

In chapter 77 of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, Naruto was sealed away, and fans haven’t received a clear indication of when he’ll return since then. While his name occasionally comes up, it hasn’t led to him being reunited with Boruto and the others in Konoha. Shikamaru, currently acting as Hokage, is doing his best to manage the village, but he can’t fully replace Naruto’s presence as the Seventh Hokage.

Sasuke Uchiha, Naruto’s longtime rival, has also been relegated to a supporting role. Similar to Naruto, he’s now waiting for others to take action while the younger generation handles threats that require Konoha’s most skilled ninja. Even more concerning, both Naruto and Sasuke aren’t operating at their full power anymore, and they’re often at the mercy of events outside of their control.

Kawaki Refuses to Release Naruto Uzumaki

Protecting Naruto Is Kawaki’s Top Priority

As fans of Boruto know, Kawaki Uzumaki is the reason Naruto Uzumaki was sealed away in chapter 77. Using his powerful Kōgan, Kawaki quickly sent Naruto and Hinata to the Daikokuten Dimension before they could respond. He did this to protect them from danger in Konoha, essentially freezing them in time like non-playable characters in a video game.

I’ve been following the situation closely, and it seems Kawaki isn’t planning on freeing Naruto or Hinata anytime soon. He believes the ninja world is too dangerous for Naruto, so he’s keeping him sealed away. It doesn’t look like anyone can convince him otherwise – not even Boruto, who’s now fully transformed into an Otsutsuki. Considering Jura is actively targeting Naruto, Kawaki feels even more strongly that keeping him safe is the right thing to do.

Because of this, some fans think it’s best if Naruto remains sealed for the time being. Losing Kurama drastically weakened him, and he’s currently vulnerable. Plus, with no clear path to quickly regaining his power, releasing him right now would be too dangerous.

Naruto Uzumaki Could Make His Comeback in Boruto’s Final Arc

The Shinobi World Must Be Safe for Naruto

Early in the series, Kawaki hinted to Boruto that he would send him to the same fate as the Seventh Hokage. While that hasn’t happened yet, recent events strongly suggest it’s a key part of the story’s ending. The destruction of Konoha, as Boruto prepared to fight Kawaki, mirrored the climactic battle between Naruto and Sasuke, hinting at a similar, final showdown.

It looks like Naruto Uzumaki won’t be appearing much in the story for a while. From what I understand, he’s not expected to return until all the current threats to Konoha are resolved – that includes dealing with Jura and the Shinju Clones, Code, and the entire Otsutsuki Clan. Plus, it seems his return won’t happen during the fight between Kawaki and Boruto; that battle will happen without him. So, fans like me will just have to be patient and wait for the Seventh Hokage to make his big comeback in the final story arc.
