This article contains spoilers for Solo Leveling Ragnarok.
When a popular series comes to an end, there’s usually one big question that keeps fans wondering: Will the series be renewed for more episodes or not? More times than not, the final chapter of a story provides closure, and fans must accept what they’ve been given. But every so often, a significant storyline continues with sequels, which some fans eagerly embrace, while others find disappointing.
I find myself often pondering over the difficulty of creating successful sequels, for the pressure to meet high expectations is immense. Occasionally, a series such as Solo Leveling Ragnarok manages to get it just right, while unfortunately, others like Boruto fall short.
Boruto’s Biggest Shortcoming
- Boruto Disrespects Naruto’s Legends
- Old Characters Hardly Appear
It’s not surprising at all that the Boruto series stands as one of the most daring sequels in the realm of anime and manga. Given the global acclaim of its precursor, Naruto, which boasted an extraordinary narrative and thrilling fights, it was only natural for the story to continue through its protagonist’s son, Boruto Uzumaki.
The era of shinobi is over! — Kawaki
In due course, “Boruto: Naruto Next Generations” commenced, and while the series started off entertainingly, it eventually veered into directions that left some fans feeling dissatisfied. At present, one could argue that even though it offers moments of enjoyment, Boruto is frequently criticized as a letdown by numerous viewers. The primary cause for Boruto being deemed an unsatisfactory sequel lies in its disregard for the very universe it inhabits. Most crucially, it tends to disrespect central characters such as Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha, the two most prominent figures within the narrative, on multiple occasions.
It’s clear that Boruto began as a follow-up to Naruto, but given Naruto’s immense impact, the journey has been quite challenging. However, Boruto has now established himself as a worthy lead character. Will he become a hero equal to or even greater than his father? That remains to be seen… Frankly, I can’t predict the future either. The outcome will largely depend on your continued support, so keep rooting for us!
Simultaneously, Boruto shapes its characters by incorporating those from Naruto, a method that some fans find less appealing when it comes to the world it presents. However, if there’s a series that executes these elements flawlessly, it’s Solo Leveling: Ragnarok.
Solo Leveling Ragnarok Didn’t Ruin Jinwoo’s Legacy
Jinwoo Is Still Stronger than Suho
In contrast to Boruto, which frequently disregards its original series and belittles Naruto Uzumaki, the main character, Solo Leveling Ragnarok follows a distinct path. Instead of Jinwoo, his son, Sung Suho, takes center stage in this sequel. Although Jinwoo isn’t directly involved in the main storyline, his presence is still palpable through various characters. Unlike some stories that might weaken the original character to elevate a new one, Jinwoo’s power remains unchanged and even increases in Solo Leveling Ragnarok. If anything, Jinwoo becomes even more powerful, ensuring his legacy continues without being exploited for Suho’s growth. By the end of the series, it’s still stated that Jinwoo is 100 times stronger than Suho.
In a more straightforward manner, Ragnarok further explores the mythology within the universe of Solo Leveling, unlike Boruto which similarly builds upon its own world’s lore. However, Boruto occasionally overwrites certain aspects and introduces revelations that contradict the established Naruto lore.
Solo Leveling Ragnarok Can Still Continue
Unfortunately, the official run of “Solo Leveling Ragnarok” has concluded, but that doesn’t signal the end of Jinwoo’s thrilling journey. It’s likely that a fresh sequel for Solo Leveling may emerge, this time centering around Jinwoo. Similarly, Naruto might be reintroduced into the storyline in Boruto, much like how Jinwoo remains at the heart of his own adventures.
Although excited about the reception, I must admit that the series, Solo Leveling, isn’t widely familiar among all audiences at this stage. As a resident of Japan, the anime hasn’t yet reached the fame of classics like Dragon Ball, One Piece, or Naruto in our region. However, if a third season is produced, I eagerly anticipate the moment when it can transcend these boundaries.
