Recent chapters of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex are finally showcasing the Byakugan’s power, largely due to Boruto Uzumaki. The artist, Ikemoto, had downplayed this important visual ability for a while, but now it’s taking center stage thanks to a surprising team-up between Boruto and Momoshiki Otsutsuki.
In Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, Boruto has started using powers from Momoshiki Otsutsuki, allowing him to safely use the Byakugan. This means the future of the Byakugan isn’t solely with Himawari anymore, and Boruto might even develop a new, more powerful version of the dojutsu, completely changing how it works.

After nearly ten years, Boruto Uzumaki has finally unlocked the Byakugan, a powerful visual ability. Fans have been eagerly awaiting this development, as the series hasn’t focused much on the Hyuga Clan’s unique dojutsu. Instead, Boruto continues to emphasize the Uchiha Clan’s Sharingan, particularly through Sarada, as well as the powers of Kawaki’s Kokugan and Eida’s Senrigan.
Chapter 29 of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex finally confirms that Boruto Uzumaki can use the Byakugan, even though he’s currently using it while possessed by Momoshiki Otsutsuki. It seems Boruto might have trouble activating the Byakugan on his own without Momoshiki’s influence, which isn’t unheard of – some members of the Hyuga clan have also struggled to awaken their Byakugan.
Boruto will continue to have his Byakugan, giving him almost a full 360-degree view of his surroundings. He can also now see the flow of chakra and pinpoint weaknesses in his opponents. This makes it much harder for enemies to surprise or effectively attack him. Plus, because of Momoshiki Otsutsuki’s influence, Boruto’s Byakugan might become even more powerful over time.
Boruto Could Evolve the Byakugan into Tenseigan
Boruto Is Both Hyuga and Otsutsuki

The Uchiha clan’s Sharingan has well-defined stages of development, progressing from its basic form to the Mangekyo Sharingan and eventually the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan. However, the Byakugan’s potential for evolution hasn’t been shown much in either the Naruto or Boruto series. The only example of Byakugan evolution we’ve seen is in The Last: Naruto the Movie, where it transformed into the Tenseigan.
The Byakugan transforms into the Tenseigan when someone from the Otsutsuki clan receives a Byakugan from a member of the Hyuga clan. This is how Toneri Otsutsuki gained the Tenseigan – he implanted Hanabi Hyuga’s Byakugan into himself, which then awakened it. Toneri also mastered the Tenseigan Chakra Mode, a power level said to be comparable to Naruto Uzumaki’s powerful Sage Mode combined with his Nine-Tails Chakra Mode.
Considering Boruto Uzumaki’s lineage – with connections to both the Hyuga and Otsutsuki clans – it’s quite possible he’ll eventually develop his Byakugan into the Tenseigan. This means he could potentially unlock Tenseigan Chakra Mode and gain the ability to create truth-seeking balls. It wouldn’t be unexpected if this happened.

The Byakugan’s Possible Evolution Through Boruto
The Jogan is one of the most talked-about visual abilities in the Boruto series. Fans are still excited to see it appear in the manga, even years after the series began. Known as the “Pure Eye” or “Eye of Hope,” the Jogan is believed to be an incredibly powerful dojutsu, potentially even stronger than those seen in the original Naruto series.
Many fans believe the Jogan might be the final, evolved form of the Byakugan, potentially appearing as a rare ability in Boruto Uzumaki. This theory suggests Boruto’s Byakugan could develop into the Tenseigan, and ultimately, the Jogan. However, the Jogan is currently considered a separate power, and the author would need to confirm a connection to the Byakugan for that to change.
