Summary
- Renee Ballard requests Cold Case Files from Harry Bosch to solve The Flower Girls murders.
- Bosch collaborates with Ballard, Crate and Barrel, and Mo Bassi to catch the serial killer.
- Intense investigations lead to capturing Jeremy McKee with DNA evidence, closing the cold case.
In the last episode of “Bosch: Legacy”, a new character named Renee Ballard is introduced. She’s a shrewd detective from the LAPD’s Robbery/Homicide division who stops by to get some old case files from Harry Bosch, concerning three victims whose photos he’s had on his desk for years – commonly referred to as The Flower Girls (not those flowers Amazon was planning to give to Titus Welliver to celebrate the cancellation of “Bosch: Legacy”).
In the climactic episode, familiar characters such as Crate and Barrel reappear to aid Bosch and Ballard in solving the case. Maddie and Vasquez contribute crucial DNA evidence to catch the serial killer, while tech-whiz Mo Bassi uses his skills to trace the suspect’s whereabouts. Meanwhile, District Attorney Honey Chandler waits in the wings to prosecute once sufficient proof is gathered. The script for this finale was penned by series creator Michael Connelly and Mitzi Roberts, who served as a source of inspiration for Renee Ballard.

The concluding episode of ‘Bosch: Legacy’ opens with Bosch and Maddie sharing a meal at Taylor’s Steakhouse, discussing their concerns following the recent home robberies involving Vasquez. As they part ways, Bosch senses he’s being trailed. He calls Mo Bassi, who verifies that the tailing individual isn’t on record but is indeed a solo driver. Upon reaching his office, this unidentified person exits her vehicle and approaches the entrance. She enters Bosch’s office, prompting him to draw his gun. To his surprise, it’s Renee Ballard from the LAPD’s RHD division who steps out, demanding he lower his weapon, and discloses she needs something from him.
I want the files you stole from me.
Bosch and Ballard are revisiting the decades-old Flower Girls murder case, with Ballard taking it up due to recent activity by the killer. The case has been a personal pursuit for Bosch for over a decade, often symbolized in his work, as he famously says “Everybody Counts or Nobody Counts.” Now, since Ballard needs Bosch’s archived files because the original ones have gone missing, she approaches him. However, Bosch wants to examine the new evidence first before handing over his old documents – seems like a reasonable request, doesn’t it?

In this scenario, Ballard meets with Bosch as instructed by their superior, Rick Seals, to discuss exchanging murder case files and serving a search warrant. However, Bosch learns about the warrant from Chandler and decides to attend the meeting without the evidence. Bosch proposes they collaborate on the case despite his initial reluctance.
Later, Ballard delivers the murder books to Bosch’s apartment, and they begin working together. The latest victim is connected to the sex industry in a Filipino neighborhood, and there are no usable fingerprints or DNA at the crime scene. Bosch suspects that the culprit might be a police officer, but Ballard remains unconvinced. After leaving Bosch’s apartment, Ballard installs a tracker on his car to monitor his actions if he decides to act independently.
As they investigate, Bosch and Mo search online for sex sites catering to Filipino women, devising a plan to arrange a fake date to lure the killer out. However, Ballard intervenes to halt the operation, advocating for more legal methods. Mo points out that the killer is particularly cunning since he uses an anonymous VPN browser, making it challenging to trace him.
It’s my case and I will solve it.
Maddie examines the case documents to try finding some progress since Bosch pledged to these girls that he would see the case conclusively resolved until the end.
Everybody Counts

Who Is The Flower Girls Serial Killer In Bosch: Legacy’s Final Episode?

In this scenario, Detective Bosch identifies a suspect named Jeremy McKee, a firefighter who Maddie has noticed frequently at the station. Bosch queries if there’s anything unusual about him, but Maddie assures that he appears normal. Collaborating with Crate and Barrel (Bosch and Mo), they begin to tail McKee for investigation.
It is later revealed that Seals had kept information from Bosch, namely the fact that they have DNA from a saliva sample found on the victim’s neck. This revelation does not sit well with Bosch. Maddie and Vasquez locate Jeremy McKee, pull him over, and collect his DNA using a breathalyzer. When Bosch and Ballard present this to Chandler, she believes the evidence isn’t conclusive enough for an arrest yet. Meanwhile, Mo breaks into McKee’s home in search of evidence, despite Ballard’s reservations about this method. Mo manages to trace McKee to a new address, where Bosch and Ballard arrive just in time to find a woman with tape over her mouth, and McKee preparing to attack. Bosch intervenes, apprehending McKee before he can harm the woman.

Legacy, Bosch and Ballard review their successful investigation as they bid farewell, leaving open the prospect of future collaboration.
