As a fan who has followed Harry Bosch’s adventures since the early days, I wholeheartedly agree that it might be prudent to put the FBI investigation on hold in Bosch: Legacy season 3. The expansion of the series into a television universe is a significant milestone, and the addition of Renee Ballard earlier than expected could prove to be too much for one season to handle.
The investigation by the FBI concerning Harry Bosch and Honey Chandler in the series Bosch: Legacy remained unresolved at the end of season 2. However, the third season promises to delve deeper, as Chandler’s bid for district attorney and the integration of the Renee Ballard narrative into the Bosch-verse are among the numerous intriguing aspects to look forward to. Given the multitude of plotlines, it might be prudent to temporarily shelve the FBI case for a future season.
In a different phrasing, Anthony Michael Hall will not reprise his role as FBI Agent William Baron in Bosch: Legacy season 3. This development, along with others, might suggest that it’s time to pause the storyline temporarily. Agent Baron was leading the FBI probe into Bosch and Chandler’s connection to Carl Rogers’ murder. Even though Chandler managed to get the case dismissed in court, Agent Baron was determined to keep digging for evidence as season 2 concluded, indicating an ongoing investigation.

In the second season of “Bosch: Legacy,” viewers were left pondering whether Mo Bassi might betray Bosch and Chandler, as Agent William Baron (Anthony Michael Hall) had apprehended him following a covert operation and extended a deal to the tech-savvy hacker in exchange for his cooperation against his former employers. This twist came about due to some exceptional legal maneuvers by Chandler that managed to dismiss the case, much to Baron’s frustration.
Initially, it appeared that Bosch: Legacy season 3 would delve deeper into Agent Baron’s pursuit of Maurice ‘Mo’ Bassi, involving Bosch and Chandler, but Anthony Michael Hall’s departure from the series has cast uncertainty over this storyline. Although introducing a new character to carry on Baron’s investigation is an option, it seems a pity given how well Hall portrayed the role, and all the groundwork laid for his character. It might be wiser to pause the FBI investigation in Bosch: Legacy season 3 and concentrate on other significant storylines instead.
2025 marks a significant milestone for “Bosch: Legacy” as it broadens into a complete television saga, with Renee Ballard making an early appearance in season 3 prior to her solo series premiere later in the year. In the finale of Bosch: Legacy season 2, a key twist was introduced as Preston Borders, a notorious villain from the initial Bosch series, resurfaced. Harry Bosch had put him behind bars previously. During a phone call from Wasco State Prison, Borders claimed that it was Harry who ordered the hit on Kurt Dockweiler. This allegation left Maddie in shock as she confronted her father about it. The season concludes, leaving room for exploration of this significant plot point in season 3, while also establishing other storylines for the upcoming season.
The New Cases
As a dedicated fan, I’m excited that the third season of Bosch: Legacy will be influenced by Michael Connelly’s gripping novel, The Black Ice. This time around, Harry Bosch finds himself delving into the dark underbelly of Los Angeles as he investigates a chilling new drug circulating in the city, traced back to the Mexican Cartel. The death of a fellow narcotics detective seems connected to this menacing substance, and if the clues are any indication, this case promises to be one of Bosch’s most challenging yet.
Honey Chandler’s Run for District Attorney
Alongside the exploration of the Kurt Dockweiler murder case and other cases in Bosch: Legacy season 3, there’s also the intrigue surrounding what actions Chandler may take if she becomes District Attorney. Given that Chandler is a key character in Bosch: Legacy, sharing the lead roles with Maddie and Harry Bosch, it seems more relevant to focus on her potential DA candidacy first. If she were to assume the position of DA, she could potentially suppress any FBI investigation into Carl Rogers’ murder, so it might be strategic to delve into this storyline in a future season, when Chandler may no longer have the support of the DA’s office.
