As someone who’s spent countless hours battling beasts and bosses in the mystical world of Elden Ring, I can confidently say that the challenges these digital monstrosities present are nothing short of awe-inspiring. And when it comes to sheer health, no enemy stands taller than Midra, Lord of Frenzied Flame.
In the tradition of FromSoftware expansions, Elden Ring doesn’t shy away from offering tough new adversaries. The Shadow of the Erdtree expansion is brimming with unique bosses, many of which are among the most challenging players will face in their adventure across the Lands Between and beyond. From Messmer the Impaler, a formidable foe who graces the expansion’s cover, to the epic dragon battle against Bayle the Dread, fans will likely be thrilled by these encounters that push their combat skills to the limit.
As a devoted admirer, I’ve got to say that the freshly introduced bosses in “Shadow of the Erdtree” pack quite a punch, with their damage and health levels far surpassing anything we’ve encountered before. This means the battles are more intricate and require careful preparation. But fear not! The innovative progression system unveiled in this expansion (Scadutree Fragments and Revered Spirit Ash Blessings) empowers us to conquer every new danger that lies hidden within the Shadow Realm. Here’s a list of the bosses from “Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree” with the highest health points.
10 Scadutree Avatar
Total Health: 34,776 HP
- Rune Reward: 260,000
- Weakness: Fire, Frostbite
- Weak Point: Flower (+50% damage)
Located at Scadutree Base, right beyond Shadow Keep, you’ll find this optional Legend Boss, known as the Scadutree Avatar. This foe boasts a greater overall health capacity than Malenia, Blade of Miquella, with her two phases combined (amounting to 33,251 HP). However, the Scadutree Avatar can prove challenging due to its three distinct phases, each having its own separate health meter.
In each phase, it’s advantageous for players to land a crucial blow, reducing the Scadutree Avatar’s health by a third upon revival. This significantly improves the odds of getting through all three phases with fewer difficulties. Furthermore, it’s essential that players always focus on striking the flower bloom at the top and employ fire-based attacks to deal maximum damage.
9 Romina, Saint Of The Bud
Total Health: 35,798 HP
- Rune Reward: 380,000
- Weakness: Fire, Frostbite
Romina, the Bud’s Saint, is a compulsory Legendary Foe that can be encountered at the Church of the Bud, which lies at the conclusion of the Rauh Ancient Ruins. To access the final zone in “Shadow of the Erdtree“, players must vanquish this formidable centipede boss. Fortunately, the battle against this foe may not prove as challenging as some Tarnished travelers might anticipate.
As a fan, I find Romina’s overall health stat quite formidable, but she has a weakness – she can be set ablaze with fire or chilled with frostbite. What makes her challenging is the Scarlet Rot she inflicts, so it’s essential to gear up with armor that enhances Immunity to prepare for the battle.
8 Messmer The Impaler
Total Health: 38,981 HP
- Rune Reward: 400,000
- Weakness: Holy (during second phase only), Frostbite
In the game “Shadow of the Erdtree,” Messmer the Impaler is an essential Demigod Boss situated atop Shadow Keep. The developers have emphasized Messmer as one of the significant battles in the game. Players might come across Messmer earlier in the story, but it’s advisable not to confront him prematurely. Messmer boasts a substantial health pool among the largest in the entire game and possesses fiery combination attacks that can be quite damaging. Engaging with him too early could potentially prevent players from completing several NPC questlines.
1. Against Messmer, players ought to recall to don flame-resistant gear and steer clear of deploying fire attacks on him. For your convenience, remember that Base Serpent Messmer (during his second phase) is susceptible to holy damage, so employing diverse spells and items that cause holy damage could prove beneficial.
7 Jagged Peak Drake
Total Health: 39,377 HP
- Rune Reward: 120,000
- Weakness: Pierce
- Weak Point: Head (+50% damage)
In the game ‘Shadow of the Erdtree’, although Jagged Peak Drake is just a minor optional boss, he’s found at the Jagged Peak Foothills and boasts more health than Messmer the Impaler. However, when players come across him, he’ll be engaged in combat with another smaller dragon. This presents an opportunity for players, as they can wait until his massive health bar is significantly reduced before attacking.
In Elden Ring, the Jagged Peak Drake isn’t particularly unique among dragon enemies you’ve encountered often as a boss fight. To deal more damage, aim for its head, and equip weapons with piercing damage or dragon-specific armaments for maximum effectiveness.
6 Bayle The Dread
Total Health: 41,612 HP
- Rune Reward: 490,000
- Weakness: Pierce
- Weak Points: Head, Leg Stump (+50% damage)
In the realm of Shadow of the Erdtree, I’ve encountered a formidable foe named Bayle the Dread who, contrary to popular belief, isn’t the dragon with the highest health. Yet, let me tell you, he’s no pushover! His arsenal of fire and lightning area-of-effect attacks makes him a force to be reckoned with. So, when venturing to confront him atop Jagged Peak, it’s crucial to gear up wisely, ensuring I’m donning the finest armor my pockets can handle.
As a dedicated fan, here’s my take:
5 Ghostflame Dragon (Moorth Highway)
Total Health: 41,929 HP
- Rune Reward: 120,000
- Weakness: Holy
- Weak Point: Head (+65% damage)
As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but share my excitement about the formidable Ghostflame Dragon that outshines Bayle the Dread in the Scadu Altus region, particularly at Moorth Highway. In the captivating world of Shadow of the Erdtree, you’ll come across three unique Ghostflame Dragons, and this encounter is no walk in the park – it’s a real test of skills, as the health value of this dragon is only slightly lower than some of the bulkiest bosses from the base game, such as the Fire Giant, who boasts an impressive 42,363 HP. Prepare yourself for a truly challenging battle!
Despite being vulnerable to holy damage and suffering higher damage to the head, the Ghostflame Dragon can be defeated with a reasonable amount of effort using spells like Black Blade, which inflicts holy damage. Furthermore, players who have encountered numerous dragons in Elden Ring may have already developed strategies that prove effective against these kinds of foes.
4 Metyr, Mother Of Fingers
Total Health: 43,296 HP
- Rune Reward: 420,000
- Weakness: Slash
- Weak Point: Belly (+50% damage)
In the Finger Ruins of Miyr, nestled within the secretive passage beneath the Cathedral of Manus Metyr’s throne, lies the enigmatic boss, Metyr, also known as the Mother of Fingers. This optional Legendary foe is a striking resemblance to some of the bosses found in Bloodborne, and encounters with her prove challenging due to her elevated resistance to all elemental attacks.
As a dedicated fan, I’ve found the most effective strategy against Metyr is focusing on weapons that inflict slashing damage and aiming for its vulnerable belly to deal additional harm. However, be cautious as some of Metyr’s powerful special attacks can lead to an instant defeat if one isn’t vigilant.
3 Ancient Dragon Senessax
Total Health: 45,551 HP
- Rune Reward: 200,000
- Weakness: Pierce
- Weak Point: Head (+100% damage)
In the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, you’ll find the dragon with the highest health – the Ancient Dragon Senessax. This optional boss battle serves as a prelude to the Bayle the Dread confrontation and is situated in a colossal cave halfway up Jagged Peak. Although players have encountered Ancient Dragon bosses before in Elden Ring, the fight against Senessax can be lengthy due to its large health pool.
Just like other dragons, aiming at Senessax’s head causes the most harm or using weapons that inflict piercing damage works well when attacking his legs during close combat. Also, be cautious not to stand in the water puddle within the arena as it increases the potency of his lightning spells and attacks.
2 Promised Consort Radahn
Total Health: 46,134 HP
- Rune Reward: 500,000
- Weakness: Holy, Scarlet Rot (during first phase only)
It may come as a shock that the final boss of the expansion in Elden Ring, the Promised Consort Radahn, who resides atop Enir-Ilim, doesn’t hold the title of the boss with the highest health in Shadow of the Erdtree. Nevertheless, with an impressive 46,134 HP and high resistances to various types of damage throughout the game, the Promised Consort Radahn is infamously challenging for many Elden Ring players, often proving difficult even when they summon NPCs or Spirit Ashes during this battle.
During the second phase against Radahn, Consort of Miquella, players may find themselves needing to adjust their battle strategy or even switch weapons or gameplay style. Conquering this version of Radahn might become less challenging when utilizing the Deflecting Hardtear and the Golden Vow spell, but it will still require a considerable amount of effort and practice.
1 Midra, Lord Of Frenzied Flame
Total Health: 47,171 HP
- Rune Reward: 410,000
- Weakness: Slash
Midra, Lord of Frenzied Flame, is an optional Legend boss found in Midra’s Manse in the Abyssal Woods. This boss takes the crown for having the highest health in Shadow of the Erdtree, yet it still falls short compared to the base game’s two gimmicky bosses with much larger health pools — Elder Dragon Greyoll (87,664 HP) and Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy (89,613 HP). However, Midra is a traditional boss encounter where players can’t rely on anything other than their own build, gear, and skill.
As a dedicated admirer, I’d like to share some insights about Midra, the Frenzied Flame Lord. He boasts a robust resistance to various damage types, except for slash. That’s the first thing to note. Now, here’s the second tip: His signature move is causing Madness buildup with almost every attack he unleashes. So, keeping a high Focus could be crucial in managing this challenging encounter.
