In ARC Raiders, the quest ‘The Unexpected Initiative’ tasks players with helping Tian Wen revive a greenhouse project to boost food supplies. To do this, you’ll need to find two items in the dangerous Buried City: fertilizer located in the Grandioso Apartments, and a Water Pump from the rooftop gardens at Piazza Roma. Don’t be fooled by the seemingly simple task – both locations are popular PvP battlegrounds, so finding these items won’t be easy!
As a player, I’ve found you can grab these items in either order, which is great! I usually start with whichever one is closest to where I spawn. Just a heads-up though – make sure you collect both items during the same attempt, or the mission might glitch. It’s a simple thing, but it saves a lot of trouble!
Fertilizer Location on Grandioso Apartments Rooftop in ARC Raiders (Unexpected Initiative)
To complete the “Fertilizer for the Unexpected Initiative” quest in ARC Raiders, you’ll need to go to the Grandioso Hotel and enter through the main lobby. You can find the hotel on the eastern side of the map – it’s marked as a location with decent loot, so be prepared for some enemy encounters.
Once inside, find an elevator shaft that has a zipline in it and use it to go down to the second-to-last floor. Be careful when you arrive, as enemies called Pops and Fireballs will try to find you.
After the zipline, turn right and go up the stairs to the roof. As soon as you’re on the roof, you’ll see some pots right in front of the door. Check those pots to get Fertilizer, which you need to finish the first part of the Unexpected Initiative quest in ARC Raiders. Then, leave quietly and go to the next location.
Water Pump Location on Piazza Roma Broken Rooftop Garden in ARC Raiders (Unexpected Initiative)
Next, head to the rooftop garden with the broken roof at Piazza Roma. This building is located just south of the Grandioso Hotel in ARC Raiders. You won’t find a marker for it on the map, so use the image above as a guide to find the correct building.
Head into the building located in the Piazza Roma area and climb the stairs to the roof. Because it’s not a designated loot area, you’re unlikely to encounter other players here.
Once you’re on the roof, turn right. You’ll see bathtubs filled with fertilizer. Walk through the opening in the fertilizer beds and interact with the small machine at the far end – it has tubes connected to it (it’s marked on the map).
After the animation finishes, a Water Pump will drop from the machine. Pick it up to finish the second part of the Unexpected Initiative quest in ARC Raiders. Then, go to the nearest metro station to escape the Buried City.
After getting the Fertilizer from the Grandioso Hotel and the Water Pump from the rooftop garden at Piazza Roma in Speranza, go to Tian Wen’s shop. You’ll receive an IL Toro Shotgun, 40 shotgun shells, and a Shotgun Choke II attachment for finishing the Unexpected Initiative quest in ARC Raiders.
