Bungie CEO Pete Parsons Stepping Down, Replacement Named

Currently serving CEO at Bungie, Pete Parsons, will be leaving his post effective immediately. This announcement was made during Gamescom, and luckily for Bungie, a new CEO has already been chosen.

Since 2003, Parsons has been an integral part of the studio, contributing to prominent games such as Halo 2 and Destiny. His rise to CEO in 2016 led to the release of Destiny 2 and negotiations regarding the studio’s acquisition by PlayStation in 2022. Over the years, Parsons has become a well-known figure for many, making his recent departure from the company surprising news.

On Bungie’s official blog, posts containing memos from both outgoing CEO Pete Parsons and the newly appointed CEO Justin Truman were shared. In his message, Pete Parsons addressed his departure.

After over 20 years of contributing to the development of this remarkable studio, setting up the Bungie Foundation, and fostering vibrant communities around our projects, Parsons announced that it’s time for a change. He reflected on the trip down memory lane, expressing immense pride in the virtual universes we created together and the countless players who consider them their homes. Above all, he cherished collaborating with the brilliant team at Bungie.

New Bungie CEO, Justin Truman, also spoke on the matter in the post previously mentioned, stating,

Truman expresses his dedication to working cooperatively with each team member, as we invest our emotions into the universes we cherish. Universes that we believe you’ve found valuable and exciting. These realms are sustained by your contributions, and they flourish because of you. Right now, we’re deeply engaged in that endeavor, working on both Marathon and Destiny. At the moment, we’re focused, but we’ll unveil more of these universes later this year in both projects.

Truman, who began working at Bungie in 2010 as an engineer on Halo Reach, has been leading the community initiatives for Destiny 2. Within the game, he held the position of Gameplay Experience Director. As of now, it appears that the CEO change at Bungie won’t postpone either Marathon or Destiny. While Destiny 2 continues to thrive with fresh expansions, Marathon has faced challenges in its initial launch. However, it is expected to be released before the end of the fiscal year, although specifics about the exact release date remain uncertain.
