According to Sony, Bungie’s game Marathon is expected to be released before the conclusion of their current financial year, which falls on March 31st, 2026.
The news emerged after Sony’s recent earnings discussion, during which a question was posed about the current status and leadership of the game in question, along with any possibility of its complete termination.
Sony’s CFO, Lin Tao, has confirmed that the release of Bungie’s Marathon is still planned for this ongoing fiscal year. This latest update follows a similar announcement made only two months ago.
At present, we’re addressing any issues that might arise. Therefore, we anticipate that the launch will proceed successfully. In case the launch gets postponed, a reevaluation of its value would be necessary. For now, however, such an outcome seems unlikely, according to Tao.
The release of Bungie’s Marathon was postponed due to a tepid response during its initial unveiling and playtesting sessions. Additionally, the team faced significant challenges following a major plagiarism allegation from a concept artist, prompting a response from Bungie.
On its delay, Bungie said that the community’s messages have been “strong and clear”.
As a passionate gamer, I’m thrilled to share that the Alpha test has given us an incredible chance to hone and emphasize what truly sets this game apart – intense survival scenarios, a world brimming with secrets and history, nail-biting endgame challenges reminiscent of raids, and combat that defines the first-person shooter genre, courtesy of Bungie. We’re seizing this opportunity to amplify our team’s creativity, crafting an immersive, high-stakes adventure akin to the legendary Marathon series. This process involves engaging more closely with the players who matter most – you! We aim to foster a stronger bond between developers and players, ensuring that your voice is heard and your experience is enriched.
It appears that the chances are slim for Marathon to succeed if it’s released during this fiscal year, or truthfully, anytime in the future. However, Bungie remains committed to launching the game in a playable and captivating form, despite the challenges.
