As a seasoned Call of Duty fan with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia when I see these leaked images of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. The vertical UI design is a throwback to the early days of the Black Ops series, and it’s a welcome change from the horizontal layout we’ve been accustomed to in recent years.
The upcoming game, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, is reportedly set to unveil an extensively overhauled Gunsmith interface with a focus on vertical layout for easier access to information. This update comes from recently leaked images that are claimed to showcase a development version of the game.
Details about the upcoming “Call of Duty” game in 2024 have been trickling out online well before Activision officially announced the AAA shooter at the end of May. The latest source of such leaks is Twitter user BetterThanAlaix, who seems to be a nod to long-time “Call of Duty” leaker HeyImAlaix. On August 3rd, BetterThanAlaix posted several screenshots that they claimed were from the PS4 version’s development build of “Black Ops 6.”
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Will Seemingly Feature a More Vertical UI
As a diehard gamer, I stumbled upon some leaked images that offered a sneak peek into the new layout of Black Ops 6’s menus. Compared to Modern Warfare 3, these menus seem to be designed with a more vertical orientation. The streaks and loadout screens appear taller rather than wide, which I believe will make them easier to navigate.
Although it’s plausible that this leaked user interface is just a temporary design, Treyarch has hinted at wanting to make the game’s interface resemble menus from earlier Call of Duty: Black Ops titles. This potential update aligns with their goal, and the new Gunsmith UI seems to draw inspiration from the first and third Black Ops games.
Most of BetterThanAlaix’s Twitter images were swiftly taken down within an hour after being posted, due to repeated copyright violations filed by Activision. This quick action lends credence to the authenticity of the leak, as it seems unlikely for the company to take action against counterfeit screenshots. However, it’s important to note that the recent images don’t entirely align with a widely circulated Black Ops 6 leak from May 2024, which hinted at a user interface resembling Modern Warfare 3. BetterThanAlaix’s screenshots imply that the previously leaked menu might have been a temporary placeholder.
In addition to unveiling the updated Gunsmith feature, recently released images have disclosed the titles of nine potential maps for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, including Babylon, Derelict, Gala, and Skyline. However, it’s important to note that this list may not be exhaustive, and t Black Ops 6 is set to launch on PC and the latest versions of PlayStation and Xbox consoles on October 25.
