While some changes have sparked controversy among fans, there are always those subtle improvements that strike the right balance between innovation and nostalgia – and Exfil is one such feature.

The “Call of Duty Zombies” game series consistently attempts to advance and bring something new with each fresh installment. However, this persistent effort towards evolution sometimes causes players to feel that the mode has drifted too far from its original essence. Instead, it’s often the subtler enhancements and additions that fans appreciate the most. To put it simply, “Call of Duty: Black Ops 6” includes some of these well-received subtle improvements in its Zombies mode.

In essence, the Zombies mode of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has introduced significant new elements, such as the recently unveiled Directed Mode. However, it largely maintains a traditional approach, seemingly aiming to return to fundamentals following the atypical open-world Zombies mode in Modern Warfare 3. Despite this, some contemporary Zombies features have been permitted to persist, like the option to Exfil during gameplay. It’s worth noting that the Exfil feature has become a notable aspect of Call of Duty Zombies, but there’s still room for improvement in this regard.

Exfil Has Become a Welcome Staple of Call of Duty Zombies

The concept of Exfil was initially presented in the Zombies mode of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, back in 2020. Exfil offers a way for players to wrap up the game without finishing an Easter egg or abruptly ending the game without proper closure. In its original version, Exfil involves players moving towards a designated location on the map after round 10 and summoning a helicopter to whisk them away from the battlefield. Players have approximately 90 seconds to reach a specific zone, kill any nearby zombies, and board the chopper.

Since its debut, Exfil has been a constant presence across all modes of the Call of Duty: Zombies series, including Call of Duty: Vanguard, Modern Warfare 3, and now Black Ops 6. Over these iterations, the fundamental rules for Exfil have remained consistent. In Black Ops 6, players are still required to summon a helicopter, navigate to a designated spot, and eliminate any remaining zombies to successfully extract.

The Exfil mechanic has been a welcome addition to Call of Duty Zombies, with it giving players an opportunity to earn bonus XP when they want to leave a match, and giving the match a sense of rewarding finality that otherwise isn’t felt when simply succumbing to the zombie horde. Black Ops 6‘s Exfil also gives players a bonus Gobblegum if they successfully extract after wave 16.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Can Improve Exfil In a Few Ways

As a gamer immersed in the thrilling world of Call of Duty Zombies, I must admit that the Exfil mechanic isn’t quite hitting the mark. One enhancement that could significantly improve the experience is the option for individual players to call for extraction without requiring the whole team’s consensus.

As a gamer, I’ve found it quite unusual when playing with random teammates that we all seem to agree on calling in an Exfil at the same time. More often than not, this shared decision eludes us, leading to frustration as the one who wanted the Exfil ends up leaving the game, missing out on bonus XP and leaving our team a member short. It’s baffling that we don’t have the ability to call in an Exfil for ourselves yet, allowing us to fight for control of an area and escape via chopper, while the rest of the squad continues the battle.

A noteworthy enhancement could involve incorporating several Exfil extraction points within larger Zombies maps of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, such as Terminus. Given that Terminus is expansive, it might be challenging for players to navigate their way to the Exfil call-in location in the prison, especially if they’re underground or on one of the neighboring islands.
