Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies Has a Secret Weapon Up Its Sleeve

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies Has a Secret Weapon Up Its Sleeve

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of Call of Duty under my belt, I can’t help but feel a surge of nostalgia and anticipation for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. The promise of 16 original maps, a full-length campaign that ties into the rich lore of Black Ops, and the return of round-based Zombies has me eagerly counting down the days to its launch.

As the release date for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 approaches, it looks increasingly likely that this game will deliver a complete gaming experience. While last year’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 had its supporters, it launched without any original maps and its campaign was disappointingly brief, lacking the signature action-packed set pieces that the series is known for. In contrast, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 promises 16 unique maps, a full-length campaign linked to Black Ops 1, 2, and Cold War, as well as the much-anticipated return of the Zombies mode in its classic round-based form.

For devoted fans of “Call of Duty” over the years, the announcement of traditional horde mode maps in “Call of Duty: Black Ops 6” is really building anticipation. While “Black Ops Cold War’s” Outbreak and “Modern Warfare 3’s” open-world Zombies modes were enjoyable attempts, they didn’t quite capture the mood and feel that fans crave from the original horde mode. If “Call of Duty: Black Ops 6” can deliver on traditional round-based maps like Terminus and Liberty Falls, which are set to debut at launch, it could restore the series to its former glory. Additionally, Treyarch has a secret weapon up its sleeve that could help it navigate any potential challenges following the game’s release.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies Is Getting a Third Map Before 2025

Fans Are Divided on Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s Zombies Maps

Ever since it initially unveiled trailer snippets for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 in June, the game has been gradually revealing details about its Zombies mode. In August, Terminus, one of the maps, was given a more detailed analysis, with fans getting to see its opening cinematic and brief glimpses of gameplay. Situated on an island-prison floating in the heart of the Philippine Sea, Terminus evokes nostalgia for classic maps such as Shi No Numa, Zetsubou No Shima, and Mob of the Dead. Longtime fans eagerly anticipate exploring its hidden mysteries.

Instead of Liberty Falls, many long-time Call of Duty: Zombies enthusiasts aren’t as thrilled, given the sneak peeks shown at August’s Call of Duty: NEXT event. Some fans have expressed apprehensions about Liberty Falls’ visual style and overall map design, with some finding it too reminiscent of Cold War and MW3’s expansive open-world maps, which were also criticized for resembling a Warzone map excessively. However, fans should hold their opinions until the complete release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, as there is a possibility that Liberty Falls may not live up to some fans’ expectations.

A Third Zombies Map Will Solve Problems Before They Even Appear

Despite potential disappointments with Liberty Falls, Treyarch still holds a strong secret card in store. During the CoD: NEXT event, the CODPOD podcast briefly took control of the main feed. In the live broadcast, Kevin Drew, Treyarch’s Associate Director of Design, hinted at the development of a third Zombies map for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, set to be released before the end of 2024.

There are no official details on what this map could look like just yet, but regardless, it’s a powerful weapon for Treyarch to have in its arsenal in the lead-up to Black Ops 6‘s release. The moment fans start to lose interest in Black Ops 6‘s Zombies mode, Treyarch will be able to drop this mysterious third map, hopefully keeping them hooked for just a little while longer.
