As a seasoned gamer with over a decade under my belt, I can confidently say that the intricacies of Modern Warfare 3 (MW3) are as familiar to me as the back of my hand. However, there’s always a new trick to learn, and today, it’s the art of switching between rapid-fire and single-fire modes in MW3.

In the reboot of Modern Warfare, the final installment may not have made a lasting positive impact, but it still manages to entice gamers with its repeat appeal. For example, Modern Warfare 3 boasts an extensive array of weapons, some even featuring multiple firing options. Regrettably, a significant number of players remain unaware of how to change firing modes in MW3.

Many gamers might not realize that changing between rapid-fire and single-fire modes can greatly enhance their gameplay experience in MW3. Various scenarios call for a shift in strategy, mirrored by the need to switch firing modes. To help you master this skill, this guide will walk you through the process of switching between rapid-fire and single-fire, as well as providing additional helpful tips.

It’s worth mentioning that not all types of weapons in Modern Warfare 3, such as marksman rifles, pistols, and sniper rifles, don’t have multiple firing modes. However, it is crucial to understand that most other weapons in the game do offer alternate firing modes, which can be essential for completing certain challenges or improving your gameplay if you intend to master them.

In the heat of Season 5, Week 4, here’s a task that calls for some finesse: switch your weapon to single-fire mode and rack up 25 operator kills. To conquer this challenge, I found it helpful to select a weapon that already has rapid-fire as its default setting.

In summary, if you’re looking to change firing modes while playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (2023), follow these steps instead:

  1. Equip a weapon that has an alternate firing mode, and look at the lower right side of the screen.
  2. You will see two icons: one with three bullets and another with one bullet. Each icon has a keybind.
  3. Press the respective keybind to switch between firing modes. On a controller, press the left button on the D-Pad, but while playing on a keyboard on a PC, you will have to press B.
  4. As soon as you press the button, your weapon will switch firing modes.

After switching your gun’s firing mode, remember it will revert back to its initial setting when you respawn. So, always adjust it according to your preference after coming back to life. Keep in mind that the default firing mode changes once you are knocked out. Utilize this knowledge wisely by selecting the right firing mode for various scenarios.
