As a longtime Call of Duty enthusiast, I must say I was genuinely disappointed to hear that Activision shut down the highly-anticipated H2M mod for Modern Warfare 2. The passion and dedication put into this project by its creator, Watchful Wolf, was evident from the enhanced features promised in the revamped multiplayer experience.
The developer behind the H2M mod for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 shared insights into why Activision halted their ambitious project. He mentioned that Activision was worried that the launch of the Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer remaster might interfere with the sales of an upcoming game in the series, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
The H2M Mod, intended to breathe new life into the multiplayer of Modern Warfare 2 by adding advanced elements, was set to debut on August 16. Unfortunately, right before it launched, the developers were informed that Activision Publishing had issued a stop-and-desist order, compelling them to terminate the project indefinitely. The mod had garnered significant attention due to its goal of filling the void left by Activision’s choice not to incorporate a multiplayer remaster. This abrupt cancellation sparked anger among players, who voiced their displeasure through petitions and negative reviews on Steam for Modern Warfare Remastered. Even the eSports organization FaZe Clan expressed sadness over the situation and urged for the mod to be permitted.

Apart from expressing the same opinion, he suggested that if the modification had been built for Black Ops 3 instead of Call of Duty, it probably would have met with the same outcome because of its widespread appeal and timing. In the future, he shared his intention to cease modding Call of Duty games but intends to delve into other mods and games on his YouTube channel. He subtly hinted at considering the creation of a new game, though he made clear that this concept is merely in its infancy with no definite plans as yet.
Although it’s still unclear if Activision might change its mind about remastering Multiplayer for Modern Warfare 2, the highly-anticipated Black Ops 6 is scheduled for release on October 25th.
