As a seasoned Call of Duty gamer with countless hours spent battling it out across various maps and modes, I can’t help but feel a mix of frustration and relief as I learn about the latest update addressing cheating issues in Modern Warfare 3 (MW3) and Warzone.
An update has been released for both Call of Duty: Warzone and Modern Warfare 3, as well as the Warzone mode, specifically addressing a trouble some Xbox Game Pass users have been experiencing due to ongoing issues with cheating within these games. Although the developers of Call of Duty: Warzone are consistently working on ways to combat this recurring problem, instances of cheating still pop up, disrupting gameplay and overall enjoyment.
Following the launch of Modern Warfare 3 on Xbox Game Pass, numerous gamers observed a rise in dishonest play. Some unscrupulous players utilized the PC edition purchased from the Microsoft Store, but their in-game avatars displayed an Xbox logo. This is possible as the Microsoft Store version tags these users as Xbox players within lobbies, enabling PC cheaters to mask their activities. Call of Duty acknowledged that a recent problem with the RICOCHET Anti-Cheat system, rectified over the weekend, was responsible for the surge in reports about cheaters. They reassured players that the RICOCHET system is capable of identifying the specific platform each user employs, even though it may not be discernible during gameplay.
As a result, Call of Duty has revealed a new update aimed at resolving the mix-up stemming from incorrect labeling of gaming platforms. This update revamps the in-game interface to distinguish Xbox and PC players using Game Pass more clearly, preventing dishonest PC gamers from masquerading as Xbox users. The update also improves cheater detection and management. Players have welcomed this news with a sense of relief and optimism about these enhanced measures.
Call of Duty Players Question the Effectiveness of Anti-Cheat System
Despite some gamers raising concerns about the efficiency of the RICOCHET system and calling for ongoing enhancements to tackle cheating, it’s unclear what steps Call of Duty will take in the future to deal with this issue. Notably, during the beta phase of Modern Warfare 3 in October 2023, players encountered similar challenges. In response, the franchise promised a more robust version of RICOCHET Anti-Cheat upon the game’s official release on November 10.
Despite some players feeling that the RICOCHET Anti-Cheat system isn’t fully meeting their expectations, Call of Duty is aggressively addressing the issue of cheating. Lately, they’ve taken significant steps against major cheat providers, such as Raging Nation who closed shop following a legal notice from Activision, and Stealthware who has also been targeted by the company. Furthermore, earlier this year, Call of Duty introduced an innovative approach to handle cheaters by automatically closing the game if aim assist is detected when using a mouse and keyboard.
