As a veteran gamer with over two decades of gaming experience under my belt, I must admit that the upcoming Call of Duty x Squid Game collaboration has me pretty excited! Having grown up playing Call of Duty and binge-watching Netflix shows, this crossover seems like a match made in heaven.
The eagerly-waited crossover between Call of Duty and Squid Game, as confirmed by Activision, is set for release on January 3rd. This collaboration will introduce unique limited-time game modes, weapon designs, character skins, and additional features. Earlier this month, the team-up was announced, and it will now debut a week after the premiere of Squid Game’s second season, currently streaming on Netflix.
In comparison to Fortnite’s numerous partnerships, Squid Game joining Call of Duty marks another collaboration for Activision’s popular first-person shooter. Recently, Call of Duty has ventured into collaborations with various horror series like Scream and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, hip-hop artists such as Snoop Dogg, Nicki Minaj, and even football legends including Lionel Messi. With more partnerships expected in the future for Call of Duty, the next one is just about to be announced.
Call of Duty Confirms Squid Game Collaboration Release Date
Activision has confirmed through a new trailer that the anticipated collaboration between Call of Duty and Squid Game will launch on Friday, January 3rd. The trailer suggests that this partnership will offer new operator skins based on characters from Squid Game, custom weapon designs, temporary game modes, and additional features. Although specific details about the limited-time modes have yet to be revealed, it seems that the iconic ‘red light, green light’ mode from the series might be one of them. The concept is straightforward: players must run from one end to another, but they need to freeze when they hear “red light,” or face elimination.
The trailer offers a broad glimpse into the multiple Squid Game costumes that are set to feature in Call of Duty, as part of their collaboration. Ranging from the recognizable red jumpsuits to the enigmatic character cloaked in black (referred to as the Front Man), it appears that Call of Duty players will have an array of distinct cosmetic items at their disposal during this partnership. While specifics about how these upcoming skins can be obtained are yet to be revealed, it’s expected that a number of Squid Game packages will be available in the Call of Duty store from January 3, featuring new weapon designs, character skins, and additional content.
Following an initial debut that received overwhelming praise in 2021, Netflix released the second season of Squid Game on December 26, offering seven fresh episodes for viewers to watch online. The eagerly awaited second installment takes place three years after the events of the first season and finds Seong Gi-hun participating once more in the deadly games alongside a new group of contestants. Despite a considerable three-year hiatus between seasons, plans are underway for a third and final season to premiere in 2025.
