With a sense of nostalgia, let’s explore some compelling “COD Zombies” conspiracies and fan theories that might just hold some truth.

6 Ultimis Richtofen Fights With Primis While Gersh Fights With Ultimis

Gersh Takes Ultimis Richtofen’s Place in Another Cycle

Call of Duty Zombies: Best Fan Theories & Conspiracies

People familiar with the poster of Call of Duty: Black Ops‘s Ascension map may recall the puzzling disclosure by creative director Jason Blundell, who revealed that the character everyone assumed to be Richtofen actually wasn’t. Many fans speculated that this enigmatic figure could have been Anton Gersh, as mentioned by Dr. Monty, who fought alongside the Ultimis team for a brief period while Richtofen was engaged elsewhere.

It seems players now have a hint about what Richtofen was up to during that period, as the Revelations loading screen displays Primis arriving at The House in Agartha with Ultimis Richtofen instead of Primis Richtofen. This suggests an alternate timeline where Ultimis Richtofen took over the role of Primis Richtofen, and then returned to Ascension once his task was completed. However, the nature of this task is still unclear.

5 Shangri-La Takes Place on Mars

The Jungle Utopia May Be On An Entirely Different Planet

Call of Duty Zombies: Best Fan Theories & Conspiracies

One of the biggest theories surrounding Call of Duty Zombies involves the Shangri-La map, and how it doesn’t take place in a random jungle, but instead, takes place on the planet Mars. Shangri-La is known to be an imaginary paradise in an exotic jungle, and there are a few things that support the theory that Shangri-La is located on Mars.

The first piece of evidence supporting this theory is the Eclipse that features when players go back in time in Shangri-La. What blocks the sun isn’t Earth’s Moon, but instead a giant rock, one that looks oddly similar to Phobos or Deimos, Mars’ moons. Also, more obviously, is the fact that a secret easter egg in Tag der Toten takes players to a dock, where the Shangri-La theme begins to play as they witness Mars in the distance, lining up perfectly with where Phobos would be in orbit.

4 Bus Route B

TranZit’s Long-Rumored Secret Bus Route

Call of Duty Zombies: Best Fan Theories & Conspiracies

A theory that has plagued the community for years, Bus Route B originates from the Black Ops 2 map TranZit, in which many players theorized that there was a secret Bus Route that could be taken instead of Bus Route A. Bus Route B is alluded to in TranZit’s bus map, and many expected for years that there was alternative locations and a super easter egg involved with TranZit to unlock new areas.

Nevertheless, the grand assertion didn’t come to fruition beyond fan conjecture, and though Bus Route B is marked on the map, it’s undoubtedly not a tangible location that players can access. Yet, potential reboots of TranZit with advanced technology might make Bus Route B feasible.

3 The Victis Crew Are Alive in the Dark Aether

Time Moves Differently in the Dark Aether, So Victis May Fight On

Call of Duty Zombies: Best Fan Theories & Conspiracies

In closing the multiverse and sending it into the abyss known as the Dark Aether to create a fresh, clean universe untainted by decay and pain, Nikolai left an unsuspecting team behind – Marlton, Stuhlinger, Russman, and Misty. Shrouded in perpetual darkness, this crew of four continues to battle tirelessly within the Dark Aether, hoping their struggle will keep them sane, alive, and protected from its corrupting influence.

In a radio found in the map Classified, players can uncover a voice recording of Stuhlinger calling out to Richtofen. This voice recording comes from 1963, and Victis would have been in Tag der Toten for around 13/14 years. Time moves differently in the Dark Aether, so perhaps Victis is indeed still alive, fighting to get out, or slowly becoming something darker.

2 Primis Nikolai Was Corrupted by Dark Aether

Primis Nikolai Betrays His Friends, Allowing the Dark Aether to Win

Call of Duty Zombies: Best Fan Theories & Conspiracies

As the cycle crumbled, post-Revelations Richtofen chose my fellow comrade, Primis Nikolai, as our new leader. He was the only one left with a soul among us, and he was the only one capable of doing what Richtofen couldn’t. Nikolai had a grand plan: to eliminate every member of Ultimis and Primis, thereby plunging the multiverse into the Dark Aether. His intention was to start the universe anew, but there were whispers that he might have been seduced by the Dark Aether, becoming a pawn in the Apothicon’s game.

In a new universe devoid of Keepers and Apothicons, born from the uncertainty of Dr. Monty’s powers following the deaths of all the Great War heroes, one might wonder if Nikolai wasn’t lured by the Dark Aether and compelled to slaughter the great heroes, thereby causing the most tumultuous chaos across multiple realities. Submerged into the Dark Aether itself, it serves as a realm for disorder and decay.

1 The Identity of the Blank Portrait

Kino der Toten’s Blank Portrait Could Mean Many Different Things

Call of Duty Zombies: Best Fan Theories & Conspiracies

In the game “Call of Duty: Black Ops,” the enigmatic empty portrait within Kino der Toten has left many speculating and puzzled for years. Notably, each member of the Ultimis team has their own portrait in Kino der Toten, but there’s a mysterious fifth one that remains unidentified.

The map Classified may have an answer to this, as a secret easter egg reveals a blank portrait inside the Pentagon as Primis Nikolai. However, this may just be a “gift” from Samantha, and the real answer may never be revealed. Could it be Maxis, who didn’t have a character design until Black Ops 2? Or could it be Pablo, the original test subject of Richtofen before Dempsey? With fractured timelines and multiverse shenanigans making a mess of things, the truth may never be revealed.
