Can Jenna Ortega Survive A Killer Unicorn? The First Trailer For A24’s Death of A Unicorn

As a gamer who’s spent countless hours navigating the labyrinthine worlds of video games, I can’t help but draw parallels between my virtual adventures and the tantalizing trailer for A24’s Death of a Unicorn. The unicorn, a mythical creature that’s as enchanting as it is mysterious, mirrors the intrigue that surrounds every new game release – what secrets will it hold? What challenges await me? And most importantly, how can I level up my character and defeat the final boss?

The first trailer for A24’s Death of a Unicorn is out. In typical A24 fashion, it looks trippy.

In the trailer, Jenna Ortega and Paul Rudd are depicted as a daughter and father duo who unfortunately strike a unicorn while traveling towards a wealthy pharmaceutical family’s mansion. Given their background, it’s no surprise that they decide to examine the injured mythical creature. Their research leads to groundbreaking discoveries such as the ability of the unicorn to cure cancer.

Richard Grant’s billionaire character exclaims this is a chance for greatness and immortality, but this is when the unexpected happens. The unicorn they discovered appears to be the offspring of an adult that is far more fearsome and ferocious than its peaceful reputation suggests. Instead of enjoying rainbows and fun, it seems intent on causing harm and destruction.

A Dark Comedy With Jurassic Park Vibes

Initially, what comes to mind is “Jurassic Park”. This blockbuster movie by Steven Spielberg, inspired by Michael Crichton’s novel, employs dinosaurs as a metaphor for the potential dangers of science driven primarily by capitalistic ambitions. In essence, it warns that rushing to market something without proper understanding can lead to disastrous consequences in a heartbeat.

In our new take, instead of velociraptors and T-rexes, a unicorn takes center stage in this story. Let’s wait and see if this unique twist proves accurate when the film is released.

This project boasts an eclectic ensemble, as you’ve noted. The star-studded cast includes Jenna Ortega and Paul Rudd. The former is a rising talent in Generation Z, while the latter is widely popular among Generation X and Millennials. Such a combination promises to attract a wide range of audiences at the box office.

Death Of A Unicorn’s Star-Studded, Multi-generational Cast

Additionally, the film “Death of a Unicorn” was brought to life by rising talent Ari Aster from A24. Although his 2018 movie “Hereditary” wasn’t the initial breakthrough for the studio, it certainly seemed like a turning point, reinforcing the wave of success initiated by “Moonlight” and “Ladybird.” Aster is still climbing towards the league of filmmakers such as Christopher Nolan and Denis Villeneuve, but he’s well on his way.

Conversely, we have writer-director Alex Scharfman. His first foray into features comes with the film titled “Death of a Unicorn“, and what an impressive beginning it is!

As a fan, I’m thrilled to see familiar faces like Will Poulter from “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” Téa Leoni from “Jurassic Park III,” and Anthony Carrigan from “Barry” gracing the screen in this dark comedy. The talented Jessica Hynes, known for her work in “Shaun of the Dead,” Sunita Mani from “Glow,” and Stephen Park from “Asteroid City” complete an impressive cast lineup.

Death of a Unicorn doesn’t have an official release date yet but has a window of Spring 2025.

A Bright Future For Crazy Movies

I can’t wait for the latest movies from A24; it seems as though Neon, Mubi, and they are engaged in a friendly contest to bring us unique, captivating, and intellectually stimulating films, which is definitely beneficial for us viewers.

In 2024, Neon gave us Immaculate, Longlegs, Cuckoo, and Anora.

And Mubi put out my favorite film of 2024: The Substance.

A24 released Queer, I Saw the TV Glow, Heretic, and MaXXXine.

It seems like 2025 will be another strong entry for one of cinema’s most important distributors.
