We’re now past the release of It Takes Two, and Hazelight Studios has moved on to a new project titled Split Fiction. Since its debut at The Game Awards 2024, we’ve been given glimpses through trailers and gameplay footage. If you’re familiar with It Takes Two or A Way Out, you’ll find Split Fiction feels comfortably familiar.

This game features numerous mini-games and collaborative gameplay segments that necessitate cooperation to be successful. In some cooperative games, an artificial intelligence companion can join you in the game, so let’s find out whether Split Fiction follows suit.

Can Split Fiction be Played Solo?

Split Fiction cannot be played solo and is a co-op title requiring a human companion.

According to Josef Fares, his games are designed to be deeply engaging experiences where players feel emotionally connected. The game “It Takes Two” was a powerful emotional rollercoaster as players lived every twist of the story alongside a genuine player. Similarly, “A Way Out” offered the same immersive experience, and “Split Fiction” follows suit by demanding the involvement of two real-life participants instead of AI.

Will Split Fiction Add Solo Play to Split Fiction?

I think the chances of Split Fiction adding a solo option through a patch are slim-to-none.

Previously, Hazelight Studios didn’t include a single-player option in their games like A Way Out and It Takes Two. Since the developers have stated their stance on solo play, it seems unlikely that Split Fiction will offer this feature either. However, if you’re a fan of Hazelight Studios and Fares, and are looking for a more solo-centric journey, don’t despair as there is still hope.

During an interview, Fares mentioned: “We’re planning not just collaborative projects, but also unique endeavors that carry a Haze-inspired flavor. Our goal is to create something distinct, similar to the twist we gave to our cooperative work. Cooperative projects are excellent and there’s a wealth of storytelling opportunities within them.

Who knows where the studio goes once Split Fiction is wrapped up and in the history books.
