I, as a busy parent and avid gamer, have been utterly captivated by Star Wars Outlaws this past week. The open-world adventure has been a breath of fresh air, and I can’t help but dream about taking it on the go with my Steam Deck. Alas, the game isn’t natively supported on Steam Deck, and even using workarounds like Heroic Launcher doesn’t seem to improve its performance much.

Due to my responsibilities as a parent, I don’t often have extended periods to sit at my computer and play the newest game releases for reviews. Instead, I frequently engage in gaming sessions using my Steam Deck, whether it’s during appointments or before bedtime. Recently, I’ve become quite captivated by Star Wars Outlaws, and I wish I could continue this open-world adventure wherever I go. Therefore, is it possible to play Star Wars Outlaws on a Steam Deck?

Does Star Wars Outlaws Work on Steam Deck?

Since Star Wars Outlaws isn’t available on Steam, it can’t be played directly on the Steam Deck. However, you can work around this by playing it through Ubisoft Connect or Epic Games Store. The most convenient method to do so is by utilizing the Heroic Launcher. This tool lets you download various third-party launchers such as those from Ubisoft and Epic Games, and also allows you to download your games via them. Keep in mind that while this method is easier, it’s not always guaranteed to work flawlessly.

Regrettably, the game Star Wars Outlaws isn’t functioning smoothly on Steam Deck, not even with Heroic Launcher. To make matters worse, it’s been reported that Ubisoft is advising PlayStation 5 players to restart their games and use a fresh save file due to severe performance problems. This is disappointing, especially for those who jumped in at launch and invested considerable time playing as Kay Vess.

Regardless, the performance issues persistently bother gamers using the Steam Deck. It frequently skips frames, lags, and has noticeable stuttering, making for a subpar gaming experience that isn’t recommended.

Will Star Wars Outlaws Eventually Offer Steam Deck Support?

Given the initial rollout that faced performance problems and was limited to Ubisoft Connect and Epic Games Store, there’s a strong likelihood that Outlaws will eventually be available on Steam. Historically, Ubisoft has either released their games on Valve’s platform after about a year or within a timeframe of six to eight months. Considering the past trends, I lean towards the latter for this game, but only time will tell.

Once Steam releases it, I really hope Ubisoft optimizes the game for better performance on the Steam Deck. By that time, most of the game’s glitches and speed issues should be resolved!
