In the game titled “Age of Darkness,” you’ll be focusing on exploration, expanding your territory, and defending your base. While your protagonist and his troops delve into the barren, Nightmare-plagued wilderness, it’s crucial to safeguard your settlement. Building a wall with a gate is a solid foundation, but given that threats can emerge from any quarter, it’s essential to ensure all potential attack points are fortified.
In the game “Age of Darkness”, mastering base construction is essential, so familiarize yourself with its basics thoroughly. Manipulating rotating gates might seem basic, but it’s an indispensable skill every player must possess.
How to Rotate Gates in Age of Darkness
In this setup, you have the freedom to modify your keybindings according to your preference. However, by default, the button assigned for rotating gates is the ‘Tab’ key. Once you’ve chosen a gate from the build menu, simply hover over the desired location and press the ‘Tab’ key while still hovering to adjust its orientation. Please note that once a gate has been constructed, it cannot be rotated any further.
In simpler terms, players have the freedom to set up gates on any buildable area, including on top of existing walls. However, when constructing more than three layers of walls adjacent to each other, it’s important to leave a gap of at least one space between each layer. Failing to do so may result in the game not allowing you to place additional walls altogether.
General Building Tip
It’s important to understand that gates are quite robust and it may take some time for Nightmares to destroy them. Placing two gates one after the other could be a smart strategy, particularly at the start when resources are limited. This allows you to effectively utilize melee hero units by navigating them through swarms of Nightmares.
Given that gates possess less durability than a standard wall, it could be advantageous to swap out gates for walls, particularly during Death Nights. This strategy proves particularly beneficial if you primarily depend on towers, traps, and siege weapons for your defense, as melee troops would otherwise lack a safe haven to retreat to when under attack.
Can You Rotate Buildings?
In the current gameplay setup of Age of Darkness, it’s important to note that buildings cannot be rotated or adjusted in their orientation. They are fixed in place and you can’t alter their facing direction. However, for production buildings like Training Halls and Siege Factories, you have the ability to determine from where your units emerge by simply clicking on these structures and then right-clicking on a desired location. This action establishes a Rally Point for your new troops, a characteristic that is often found in other Real-Time Strategy (RTS) games.
