Cancelled Halo Battle Royale Details Surface Online, Video Claims

As a dedicated Halo fan with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I can’t help but feel a pang of disappointment upon hearing about the cancelled Halo battle royale project, Project Tatanka (or Ekhert). The prospect of a Halo-themed battle royale game was like a beacon of hope for many of us who have grown up with this iconic franchise.

In an exclusive video, a creator and journalist have analyzed a set of alleged details about Project Tatanka, which eventually became known as Project Ekhert – the much-hyped but ultimately unsuccessful Halo battle royale game. According to the report, the project was scrapped in 2023 due to a decision to prioritize development on the next main Halo title and because the popularity of the battle royale genre was starting to decline.

Read on to check out the full array of claims about the cancelled Halo battle royale project.

What Might Have Been

Many enthusiasts were looking forward to a Halo game based on battle royale format, even some popular streamers who are fond of first-person shooter games. Unfortunately, indications suggest that 343 Industries may have scrapped this project, shifting their focus towards larger and more impressive projects for the franchise instead.

In January, there were reports stating that 343 Industries intended to take an entirely fresh approach for the next Halo game, using a brand-new engine. It’s been said that shortly after this announcement, Project Tatanka (Project Ekhert) was closed down.

On social media, content creator ‘Rebs Gaming’, known for identifying important Halo details in the past, shared a breakdown of various details connected to the abandoned Halo battle royale project.

343 Industries tests the game on a weekly basis, which is where most of these details originate. Players access the map located on the Zeta Halo ring, a compilation of various fragments. The drop-pod system reminiscent of ODSTs delivers players to this location. As they traverse the map, they collect power items, equipment, and shields while achieving smaller objectives.

Over the course of the game, various vehicles such as Warthogs, Mongooses, Falcons, and others were delivered by Pelicans swooping overhead.

Although these reports about a Halo battle royale game are unconfirmed, it’s important to note that as of now, no such game is scheduled for release. Previously, there were strong whispers suggesting its development. In light of this non-release, some ingenious players have been designing their own Halo battle royale mode, demonstrating a clear desire for the gameplay experience.
