Summary
- Capcom has officially teased Resident Evil 9.
- The tease came in a video celebrating the Resident Evil 4 remake’s sales success.
- Rumors suggest RE9 will be open world.
It appears that Capcom may be hinting at the upcoming release of Resident Evil 9. Given the immense popularity and success of the Resident Evil video game series, it’s only a matter of time before we see Resident Evil 9. At present, there’s no new Resident Evil game for enthusiasts to eagerly anticipate. However, whispers continue about several potential new games being developed by Capcom.
Apart from the anticipated “Resident Evil 9”, there’s buzz that Capcom is also developing remakes of “Resident Evil Zero” and “Resident Evil Code: Veronica”. These projects, particularly the “Code: Veronica” remake, have been asked for by fans, so it seems we might not have to wait much longer. In the interim, it appears that “Resident Evil 9” could be coming up next, as Capcom has finally given us a glimpse of what’s to come.
Capcom has recently shared a video rejoicing over the 10-millionth sale of the Resident Evil 4 remake, making it the fastest-selling game in the series. The clip showcases infected villagers donning party hats, but the significant detail lies at the end. A sign in the village, when viewed at an angle, reads “IX,” denoting the Roman numeral for 9. The song playing in the background advises to keep one’s gaze on the future and not to glance back. Although it could be a mere coincidence, it seems more plausible that this is Capcom hinting towards Resident Evil 9.
Capcom Teases Resident Evil 9 in New RE4 Video
There has been a lot of debate about what Resident Evil 9 might involve, with some suggesting that classic characters like Jill Valentine and Leon S. Kennedy could return, while others claim it will be an open-world game marking a new era for the popular survival-horror series. However, reliable sources have cast doubt on these claims.

If it’s accurate, it’s logical that Capcom would hint at Resident Evil 9 within a remake of RE4. That’s because RE4 was when the franchise made a significant change, adopting the over-the-shoulder camera view which many subsequent Resident Evil games have since employed. RE7 followed suit with its first-person perspective and stronger emphasis on terror, so it’s intriguing to speculate what fresh ideas RE9 might bring to push the series further. It’s rumored that we could learn about RE9 by the end of this year, so here’s hoping fans don’t have to wait much longer for updates!
