Capcom Says Resident Evil Requiem Development Started ‘Way Before’ Village

While Capcom was developing the scares for Resident Evil 8, they were simultaneously starting work on a new game, Resident Evil Requiem, which they intend to be accessible to a wide range of players.

With the conclusion of Ethan Winters’ story in Resident Evil Requiem, a new protagonist takes center stage: Grace Ashcroft. Despite ongoing speculation about Leon Kennedy’s future, Capcom seems to have been planning Grace’s story for a while now.

Resident Evil Requiem Is Over 6 Years In The Making

I was reading Press Start’s interview with Masato Kumazawa, the producer for Resident Evil Requiem, and it’s really interesting! I found out that Capcom has been working on Requiem for a surprisingly long time, and that they actually started developing it around the same time they were making Village. It’s cool to learn how these games come together!

Thinking about it now, it’s clear why Resident Evil 4 and Village shifted towards more action. We recognize that fans generally prefer a stronger focus on horror. We started working on Requiem before Village, and with this new game, we really wanted to prioritize horror and make it the central experience. I make an effort to read as much fan feedback as possible on social media – I’m not sure if everyone on the development team does that, but I find it really valuable.

Kumazawa also shared more about the development of Requiem, explaining that the online multiplayer game has been in the works for approximately six years.

Even though the Resident Evil series has been popular for more than 30 years, Capcom still wants to bring in new fans. Kumazawa shared that they’re designing Resident Evil Requiem to be easy for anyone to pick up and play.

I want everyone to know that Resident Evil: Revelations 2 is accessible to both new players and longtime fans. You don’t need to have played any previous Resident Evil games to enjoy it. We’ve designed it so anyone can pick it up and play, with difficulty options like Casual making it easier for newcomers. While it’s a great entry point for those new to the series, we haven’t forgotten our existing fans. We’ve included plenty of familiar elements and references that they’ll appreciate, as you can see even in the demo.

A Leon skin called ‘Requiem’ was reportedly seen on the PlayStation Portugal website for pre-orders.
