Capcom Talks Making Monster Hunter Now's Version of Nergigante

As a seasoned Monster Hunter Now player with countless hours spent slaying beasts both great and small, I must say that the introduction of Nergigante to our mobile hunting grounds is nothing short of exhilarating! This Elder Dragon, iconic as it is from Monster Hunter: World, brings a new level of intensity to our quests.

As a dedicated Monster Hunter fan, I’m thrilled to share that the latest update, Monster Hunter Carnival, is bringing some exciting additions to our AR game! Among these newcomers is none other than the fearsome Elder Dragon, Nergigante. Starting from November 2nd or 3rd, players who purchase a ticket can embark on quests and encounter Nergigente in Elder Dragon Interceptions. The hunt for Gold Rathians and Silver Rathalos will also provide us with new armor and gear. It’s important to note that while this is the global event launch, Monster Hunter players in Shibuya have already been battling this formidable Elder Dragon!

In the context of “Monster Hunter Now,” Nergigiante embodies not just the current event but the entire season. Monsters like Magnamalo and Rajang, which were previously introduced, have shown a great deal of aggression. Although all Elder Dragons possess some level of aggressiveness, it is a particularly notable trait for Nergigante. During the “Monster Hunter Now” Carnival event in Shibuya, Game Rant had a conversation with Niantic’s COO Kei Kawai and Capcom producer Genki Sunano (with Kawai translating for Sunano) about the integration of Nergigante into the mobile game, and how these two companies managed to portray this Elder Dragon in their respective titles.

It’s evident why Niantic and Capcom selected Nergigiante for “Monster Hunter Now,” as Kawai elaborated. Not only is it iconic and serves as the flagship monster in “Monster Hunter: World,” but it also harmonizes nicely with Teostra and Kushala Daora. However, what truly sets Nergigiante apart lies in its relevance to the season. In response to queries about challenges or minute aspects concerning the inclusion of Nergigiante in “Monster Hunter Now,” Sunano clarified.

Compared to other Elder Dragons, this one isn’t extraordinarily challenging due to its manageable size and easier translation. However, along with Magnamola and Rajang, the creatures we introduced this season exhibit more aggressive behaviors. Therefore, it is crucial for our current version to accurately portray their original movements and ensure they function in that manner.

Game Rant had a chance to battle against Nergigigate at the Monster Hunter Now Carnival: Shibuya event. The creature exhibited an extraordinary level of aggression reminiscent of its character in Monster Hunter: World. It’s clear that both companies have gone to great lengths to make this version of Nergigante as true-to-form as possible, which is undeniably thrilling for every monster introduced thus far. This detail suggests a promising future for the monsters yet to be unveiled.

Even though some fans might not notice, the way a monster moves is crucial to maintaining the authenticity of an iconic monster. Fortunately, Capcom and Niantic have paid close attention to detail, ensuring that the Nergigante encountered in the Carnival event looks, feels, and induces the same level of fear as its console counterpart.
