Capcom’s Crappy Microtransactions Are Back in Monster Hunter Wilds, Including Paid Character Edits

Capcom creates excellent video games, however, for quite some time, they have been selling controversial microtransactions, which can negatively impact the quality of the games they are associated with.

Similarly to Monster Hunter World from 2018, the latest release Monster Hunter Wilds requires real-life currency for customizing a player’s character or companion Palico with cosmetic changes.

To clarify, the initial edit of your personal hunter character is already included at no cost when you begin the game. However, any additional edits beyond that will require a purchase of a ‘Character Edit Voucher 3-Pack’, priced at $5.99 or £5.79 each, from the PlayStation Store.

In Wilds, the character creation process is quite detailed, and your character appears in almost every key scene during the campaign. Therefore, if you notice anything you want to alter, make sure you do it correctly from the beginning as there may not be many opportunities for change later on.

Among these items, Capcom has been frequently criticized for selling extras like Devil May Cry 5’s red orbs currency and the controversial paid consumables in Dragon’s Dogma 2, which many fans consider as unwanted add-ons.

During a game’s review period, microtransactions aren’t usually accessible. This means critics won’t be able to check out what items are being sold until the game is officially released for everyone.
