Nintendo recently released a small update for Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker on both Switch and the new Switch 2 console. The update is primarily aimed at improving the experience for players who enjoy using amiibo figures with the game.
Captain Toad first appeared in the original Super Mario Galaxy, but he became a playable character in Super Mario 3D World, where he starred in puzzle levels. This success led to his own game, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker. This game built upon the levels from Super Mario 3D World, tasking players with finding Power Stars by manipulating the game world to reveal hidden secrets. Originally released on Wii U in 2014, Treasure Tracker was later brought to the 3DS and Switch in 2018, allowing more people to play. Surprisingly, even eleven years after its first appearance, the game is still receiving updates.
Nintendo recently updated Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker to version 1.4.2. The main addition is support for the Captain Toad & Talking Flower amiibo. This update is available on both the Switch and Switch 2 and launched alongside the new Captain Toad figurine. The Captain Toad & Talking Flower amiibo is one of three Super Mario Bros. Wonderthemed amiibos, but it’s currently the only one that unlocks special bonuses in Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker* when scanned on either console.

A new amiibo update is available for Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, building on previous updates released in 2025. Last June, Nintendo released a significant patch alongside the launch of the Switch 2, enhancing the game for players on the new console. This update utilized the Switch 2’s improved hardware to deliver better graphics, HDR support, and the ability to use GameShare.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder Gets Switch 2 Edition Alongside New Amiibos
It’s worth noting that Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker wasn’t the only Nintendo game recently updated. Nintendo also released Version 1.2.0 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder on March 25th, with improvements designed for the Switch 2. Officially titled Super Mario Bros. Wonder — Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park, the updated game launched on March 26th and includes new multiplayer features, characters, and other additions. Plus, using the *Mario Wonderthemed amiibo unlocks extra bonuses for players.
Nintendo is continuing its popular amiibo line with several new releases and support for existing games like Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker. Beyond the amiibo for Super Mario Bros. Wonder, figures based on Super Mario Galaxy and Kirby Air Riders are coming out later this year. Plus, new *Metroidthemed amiibo launched at the end of 2025.
It’s exciting to think about which other classic Nintendo games might get surprise updates soon. With more amiibo figures on the way, Nintendo could add support for them in older titles. Even without that, the recent update for Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker gives fans a great reason to revisit one of Nintendo’s most delightful games from the 2010s.
