Bandai Namco is releasing a new Captain Tsubasa game for the Nintendo Switch, as well as PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Steam. Called Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters, the anime-style soccer game is planned for release later this year, though a specific date hasn’t been announced yet. The game continues the story of the popular manga and anime series that started back in 1981.
The team that made the first Captain Tsubasa game, Tamsoft Corporation, is also developing Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters. That’s good news for fans, as they previously created a really enjoyable and exciting anime-style sports game. In fact, Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions has generally positive reviews on Steam, with most recent players giving it a thumbs up.
Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters Reveals First Trailer
During February’s Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase, a short preview of the new Captain Tsubasa game, World Fighters, was revealed. The initial trailer was brief, only highlighting the game’s main features. However, Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe quickly released a longer trailer with more details. This extended trailer showed off additional characters and their special moves, and it also gave fans a better look at the story, which centers on Tsubasa Oozora’s journey to become a world champion.
Like past games, this Captain Tsubasa title stands out with its incredibly dramatic and anime-inspired soccer action. Players can perform unbelievable moves – called super moves – that involve everything from summoning mythical creatures to controlling the ball with spirit energy. The game’s special techniques are based on the iconic moves from the manga and anime, but they’re even more over-the-top and visually stunning.
I’m really excited for Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters! It’s coming out in 2026, but we don’t have a specific release date just yet.

The announcement confirms that Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters is a direct sequel, with Bandai Namco Europe describing it as the next chapter in Tsubasa’s journey.
Players can create and customize their own character to team up with Tsubasa in his newest adventure. The game’s official description encourages fans to build their own journey to winning by making a character and joining Tsubasa’s quest, promising new friendships, challenging rivals, and the chance to win the championship.
I’m so excited! The Nintendo eShop page for Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters is up, so you can now add it to your wishlist if you’re a fan like me! Definitely planning on getting this one.

But fans of anime-style sports games can still get their fix with Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road.
