Songs of Glimmerwick is a role-playing game from the creators of Eastshade, focusing on a witch academy and farm life. Released in October 2025, Barbie Horse Trails is the newest game from PHL Collective, a developer based in Philadelphia. It’s an open-world adventure where you can create a unique character and fully customize your horse – making it the first modern Barbie game to offer this level of freedom. In this single-player game, you play as a junior ranger at Canterbury Trails Park, spending your time exploring vibrant scenery, taking photos of animals, and personalizing both your character and horse.

As a gamer, I’m always amazed when smaller studios pull off something incredible. Sometimes, these ‘AA’ games – not quite the biggest budget titles, but bigger than indie – actually compete with those massive AAA open-world games, both in terms of how much they try to do and how well they actually do it. It’s rare, but when it happens, these games are masterpieces. They often exceed expectations, and sometimes, the limitations they face actually help them be unique and stand out. I want to highlight a few of these really special AA open-world games – they’re few and far between, but totally worth checking out.

The Elbaph arc of One Piece felt unique compared to most others in the series. Typically, major One Piece arcs establish a clear enemy early on, but Elbaph was initially puzzling because the Straw Hats didn’t have an obvious threat to confront. While Shamrock and Gunko initially seemed like potential villains, Shamrock quickly left, and then two more Holy Knights appeared.
