As a seasoned movie critic, it’s evident that the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has been experiencing a slump since the phenomenal success of 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. The year 2025 has echoed these sentiments, with films like Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts receiving mixed reviews and underperforming at the box office. The combined financial disappointments of these movies, coupled with other MCU misses from recent years such as Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Secret Invasion, and The Marvels, paint a concerning picture for the future of this once-dominant franchise. Thus, it’s crucial that The Fantastic Four: First Steps delivers a resounding success to revitalize the MCU.

It goes without saying that such major technical glitches are extremely aggravating.

In my humble opinion as a film critic, the bold move of merging cheesy horror with humor, all while leveraging today’s AI advancements to generate chills, was indeed a winning formula. Yet, the sequel to M3GAN, M3GAN 2.0, has taken a starkly different path, serving as a cautionary tale for the horror genre. It seems that pitting it against the summer blockbusters may not have been the wisest choice.
