Over the years, both the original Nintendo Switch and the OLED model have had many different versions of Joy-Con controllers. These ranged from simple color changes to completely redesigned controllers with unique artwork. While Nintendo regularly released new official Joy-Cons for the original Switch, the most detailed designs often came out with major first-party games like Pokemon, Mario, and The Legend of Zelda. These special edition controllers were made for collectors and often looked like they were pulled straight from the game world—for example, the Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu & Eevee Joy-Cons matched the colors of Pikachu and Eevee, and the The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom OLED Joy-Cons featured designs inspired by the Zonai people.

During the September 2025 Nintendo Direct, Nintendo announced the latest installment in the Mario Tennis series. Mario Tennis Fever is part of the celebrations for the 40th anniversary of the Mario franchise and will feature a large roster of 38 playable characters. The game will include a new story mode and a core gameplay mechanic called “Fever Rackets,” where players can collect 30 different special rackets.
