This new collaboration marks the second time that Final Fantasy 14 and the Monster Hunter series have joined forces. The first was an event in Monster Hunter World during FF14’s Stormblood expansion. This latest crossover between FF14 and Monster Hunter Wilds centers around a quest to defeat Omega Planetes, a challenging superboss well-known from the Final Fantasy series. Players can use abilities inspired by the Dark Knight and Pictomancer jobs from Final Fantasy 14 to help with the fight against Omega Planetes. However, to even attempt this challenging encounter, Monster Hunter Wilds players need to reach Hunter Rank (HR) 41 or higher.

Even though the game series is called “Monster Hunter Stories,” the previous games didn’t have particularly complex storylines. Players play as a Monster Rider who bonds with a Rathalos named Ratha and embarks on an adventure. The focus was more on the Rathalos and its connection to the story than on the main character themselves, who didn’t really have a personality. Both earlier games featured a silent protagonist, so a companion named Navirou filled the role of narrator, commenting on events the main character didn’t react to. This often created a lighthearted tone, making it hard to feel invested in more serious moments due to the emotional contrast.

Let’s be clear: *Legends: Z-A* isn’t a true ‘Souls-like’ game, but the combat is much faster and more complex than previous *Pokémon* battles, demanding quick reactions. It builds on the real-time elements introduced in *Legends: Arceus*, but significantly increases the intensity. While dodging attacks from a new Rogue Mega Evolution Pokémon, I was reminded of the challenging combat in *Elden Ring*. If you’re hoping to prepare for *Legends: Z-A*, you might find games like *Elden Ring* or *Skyrim* more helpful than *Pokémon Scarlet and Violet* or even *Legends: Arceus* itself.

Monster Hunter Wilds had a bit of a slow beginning, but recent updates have really improved the game. With the release of Title Update 3 just around the corner, Capcom has now shared all the details. While we already knew the featured monster – Omega Planetes – there was still a lot to learn. One key addition in this update is Pictomancy Spells, which are being added as part of a collaboration with Final Fantasy XIV.

The new Monster Hunter Outlanders trailer, released on Wednesday, introduced Aesoland, a mysterious island that serves as the game’s setting. Unlike the existing Monster Hunter mobile game by Niantic, Outlanders will offer gameplay more similar to the classic Monster Hunter titles. Players will hunt both familiar monsters and new “Radiant Species” – creatures mutated by a local mineral called Radiantite. These Radiant Species are particularly dangerous, as the mineral makes them extremely aggressive and ferocious, so caution is advised.

The *Monster Hunter Stories* series started as a different take on the popular *Monster Hunter* games, first appearing on the Nintendo 3DS in 2016. Unlike the main *Monster Hunter* games which focus on action, *Monster Hunter Stories* uses turn-based battles. The first game was so successful that it was later released on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, PC, and mobile. This led to the release of *Monster Hunter Stories 2* in 2021, and just recently, in July, Capcom announced the next installment, *Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection*.

Because of this, most players don’t rely on just one or two weapons throughout the game. Instead, skilled hunters focus on mastering a specific weapon type and collect different weapons within that category to handle any challenge. *Monster Hunter: World* offers a huge range of weapon choices, and you can still enjoy the game immensely without perfectly optimizing your gear for every fight.
