If you’re not familiar, Monster Hunter Stories 3 isn’t a traditional Monster Hunter game. It’s the third installment in a spin-off series that started in 2017. While it still takes place in the Monster Hunter universe, the gameplay is very different. Instead of fast-paced action RPG battles for crafting materials, Monster Hunter Stories is a slower-paced, turn-based RPG focused on story and raising monsters – it’s similar to Pokemon in how it plays and shares some visual similarities with Bandai Namco’s Tales games. For years, the series has been relatively niche, but the demo for Monster Hunter Stories 3 makes me think it could finally gain the wider recognition it deserves.

Specifically, a Free Challenge Quest focusing on Arch-tempered Arkveld will be available from March 19th to March 31st.

The game will cost $39.99 for the standard edition. A special “Blood Scales Edition” will be available for $49.99 and includes extra items like unique character appearances, visual effects, 40 pieces of armor, and a 72-hour head start before the official launch.

Unlike many Soulslike games, Nioh 3 focuses intensely on complex combat and strategic options. While games like Elden Ring prioritize exploring a vast world, Nioh 3 lets you switch between Samurai and Ninja fighting styles, offering a lot of ways to customize your character and approach battles. Instead of a sprawling, open world, Nioh 3 features larger, connected areas. This means the game challenges you more with how you fight, rather than where you go, giving it a unique identity within the genre.

Although Elden Ring is a fantastic game, it’s not without its flaws. While the soulslike genre is known for being challenging and punishing, Elden Ring sometimes creates frustration that doesn’t add to the enjoyment. Other games in the soulslike style have already addressed some of these combat issues, and even more have done so since Elden Ring’s release.
