Father of the Elder Scrolls Julian Le Fay Has Died at Age 59

On July 16, it was announced that Julian Le Fay, a cherished figure in the gaming community, was departing from the industry due to his deteriorating health battle with cancer. He chose to spend the remaining time of his life with his loved ones. The team of the studio he co-founded, OnceLost Games, posted a poignant message paying tribute to Le Fay’s character and his indispensable impact on the gaming industry and the development of the RPG genre. Le Fay was instrumental in bringing The Elder Scrolls: Arena into existence in 1994, and he had recently been involved with the open-world RPG project The Wayward Realms at OnceLost.

‘The father of Elder Scrolls’ Julian LeFay has died: ‘His legacy will live on in every realm, every quest, and every moment of wonder’

LeFay’s career was so diverse it can hardly be defined by any single category: A man who, on one side, was a member of a Danish electro-pop group called Russian Heat, and on the other, created a parser for Ancient Greek. However, he will predominantly be remembered as “the founder of Elder Scrolls,” acknowledging his significant role in the early stages of that series.
