As a die-hard fan of Call of Duty esports, I can’t express how exhilarated I am for today’s grand final between the New York Subliners and OpTic Texas in the CDL Championship. This is more than just a game for me – it’s a testament to the passion, dedication, and hard work that these teams have put into their craft.
Today, the New York Subliners and OpTic Texas will clash in an epic showdown at the Call of Duty League Championship final. These teams are the giants of the league, and reaching this point has been a challenging process for both.
Having $1.2 million at stake for the winner makes this grand final incredibly significant. This highly anticipated event could mark OpTic’s long-awaited return to winning in Call of Duty since 2017. Alternatively, a victory for the Subliners would make them the first ever back-to-back world champions in the history of Call of Duty.
Can’t Miss This
The Call of Duty League Championship has been an impressive competition so far. The winner’s bracket and the losers’ bracket have been filled with exciting matches, and the games played last night were truly remarkable.
Toronto Ultra kicked off the competition with a decisive 3-0 win against Atlanta FaZe, sending the favorites packing. More recently, LA Thieves have emerged as strong contenders, eliminating Miami Heretics in the same fashion, leaving them behind and showing great form and determination on their path to the trophy.
At that point, Ultra and Thieves met in a rematch on Thursday. Los Angeles nearly pulled off an upset against Ultra, who were moved into the lower bracket by LA. The intense match went on for five rounds, with both teams putting in their best efforts. However, Ultra managed to hang on and eliminate Thieves.
As a long-time fan of the Call of Duty League, I have had the pleasure of witnessing some incredible matches between top teams. But none have left me feeling quite as deflated as the one between the New York Subliners and Toronto Ultra. Having cheered for the Ultra since their inception, I had high hopes for this encounter – it was their first meeting in the tournament after all.
Here’s a little history lesson:
- CDL Major 5 (2023): New York eliminates Toronto Ultra in the lower bracket (3-2)
- COD Champs (2023): New York defeats Toronto Ultra in a record-fast Grand Final (5-0)
- CDL Major 2 (2024): New York eliminates Toronto Ultra in the lower bracket (3-0)
- CDL Major 4 (2024): New York eliminates Toronto Ultra in the lower bracket (3-0)
- COD Champs (2024): New York eliminates Toronto Ultra in the lower bracket (3-2)
After the Subliners have handed Toronto a significant defeat, the scene is now prepared for an unprecedented championship final. It’s up to OpTic Texas to create history and earn OpTic their first title in seven years, or for the New York Subliners to make their mark as the initial back-to-back world champions in Call of Duty esports.
Don’t miss it.
