CDL Major II Has Been Sweep City Central So Far and Only Four Teams Remain

The Call of Duty League Major II tournament currently underway in Texas is swiftly progressing, and it’s one of the quickest events we’ve witnessed in recent times. Out of all the matches played, only four games have extended past a 3-0 scoreline, as the strongest teams in the industry are relentlessly overpowering their opponents.

Four teams remain in contention – Surge, FaZe, Ultra, and LAT. Fans anticipate another Major I finale between LAT and FaZe, but Toronto Ultra’s impressive lower-bracket performance might upset these predictions.

At the first possible chance, Cloud9 knocked Toronto Ultra into the lower bracket. However, this setback ignited an incredible streak for the team, who eliminated three opponents consecutively without dropping a single map. The unyielding Toronto Ultra is the same squad that hosted Major I and will host COD Champs in June.

In the same predicament, LAT finds itself after defeating teams like Heretics, Royal Ravens, and Cloud9, but having been pushed into the lower bracket by an unexpected defeat at the hands of Boston Breach in the initial stages of the competition.

More recently, LAT emerged victorious at the CDL Minor II tournament. Now, they are aiming to seize their chance and excel in Major II, with the ambition of avenging their narrow defeat against Atlanta FaZe in Madrid back in February.

In an interview after the win against Cloud9, LAT’s Scrappy said about that series and this one:

As a dedicated team member, I can’t help but feel we’ve come together perfectly for this tournament. Admittedly, our performance in Search and Destroy at the previous Major wasn’t up to par, and our map pool could have been stronger. However, leading up to this Major, we’ve poured countless hours into our practice, and I can confidently say that we’re looking sharp and ready for the challenge ahead.

Another dark contender in this tournament is Vancouver Surge. Ever since they acquired Neptune, their performance has been top-notch, giving them a strong grip on the upper bracket. They’ve already defeated both the Royal Ravens and Boston Breach, and now they stand poised to challenge FaZe if they wish to reach the Grand Final. However, overcoming FaZe might not be much of a struggle for the Surge.

In the Minor II tournament, Surge outplayed Atlanta FaZe, while earlier they had secured a 3-1 victory over the favorites in the qualifiers for Major II. Since June 2024, FaZe hasn’t managed to defeat Surge, but this has been due to limited chances until now. However, recent events have provided them with an opportunity to change that.

At this point, any of the four remaining teams could potentially win it all, yet the prospect excites me as an underdog story unfolds. I’d be rooting for Surge to get their chance and possibly lift the trophy.
