CDL’s Subliners Reveal The Brand Is Shutting Down

As a long-time fan of the New York Subliners, I’m feeling a mix of emotions right now. The announcement that NYXL is shutting down the New York Subliners brand has left me feeling nostalgic and a little sad. I’ve followed this team for years, from their underdog days in the Call of Duty League to their dominance and eventual win at COD Champs in 2023.

NYXL, the company behind the New York Subliners esports team, recently announced that the NYSL brand is being discontinued. This news follows closely after the announcement of a partnership between the Subliners and Cloud9, which did not clarify how the collaboration would affect the Call of Duty League team’s branding. However, it now appears that the New York Subliners, in terms of their brand identity, will cease to exist.

End of the Line

The New York Subliners have made a significant mark in the Call of Duty League over the years. They began as an underdog team during the Cold War season, but quickly rose to prominence, leading the pack in gameplay and winning COD Champs in 2023. Fans have been privy to the team’s inner workings for quite some time now.

I was thrilled to hear about the New York Subliners until I received the shocking news today that they’re closing down from a branding standpoint. The team shared this heartfelt announcement and emotional montage on their social media platforms, leaving many fans, including myself, feeling a mix of sadness and uncertainty.

Over the last five years, we’ve shared many special moments together: a wedding ring 💍, six gold medals 🥇, three silver medals 🥈, our first homestand in New York, and countless other memories. We want to express our heartfelt appreciation to all of our fans for your unwavering love and support throughout this amazing journey. Thank you for being a part of our incredible experiences.

Cloud9 made it clear in their response that this is not a farewell, but rather the start of something new for their Call of Duty team. Despite the surprise dissolution of their CDL squad, everyone had assumed that Subliners would carry on the Cloud9 banner at the Esports World Cup. However, it seems that Cloud9 intends to return to the Call of Duty scene next season.

Recently, at COD Champs, the New York Subliners finished as runners-up, while Optic Texas emerged victorious, marking their first global championship title since 2017.

I’ve made some inquiries with individuals who are in the know about the Subliners to find out if there are any new developments on the horizon.

Instead of “Are you sad to see the Subliners go, or excited about what C9 may bring in the 2025 CDL season?”:
