Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc is a critically acclaimed and popular animated film that’s gained fans worldwide. Based on the fifth story arc from the Chainsaw Man series, the movie also features a host of new and interesting characters, each with their own distinct personalities, powers, and skills.
Throughout this story arc, even characters who’ve been around since Season 1 – like Denji, Aki, and Power – became much more powerful. The arc, called The Reze Arc, features a lot of strong fighters, and here are eight of the absolute strongest, making them some of the most powerful characters in the whole series.
Power – The Blood Fiend
She Got A Massive Power-Up And Then Disappeared For Most Of The Movie
- Debut: Chapter 4 (Manga) Episode 2 (Anime)
- Voiced by: Fairouz Ai (Japanese) Sarah Wiedenheft (English)
Power, also known as the Blood Fiend (a Blood Devil inhabiting a human body), is incredibly strong and can create solid objects, such as weapons, using her own blood. After consuming a large amount of zombie blood near the end of Season 1, she gained a significant power boost, which was first shown at the beginning of The Reze Arc movie.
Power had become much stronger, able to launch Denji into the ceiling with one hit. Unfortunately, she’s missing for most of the movie because Makima took her away to remove excess blood, preventing her from growing even more powerful and conceited. However, the scene after the credits showed that she hadn’t lost her quirky personality.
Beam – The Shark Fiend
Lord Chainsaw’s Loyal Follower Is The MVP Of The Movie
- Debut: Chapter 34 (Manga) Episode 11 (Anime)
- Voiced by: Natsuki Hanae (Japanese) Derick Snow (English)
Ironically, Power being gone turned out to be a good thing. She was temporarily replaced by Beam, a powerful ally and devoted follower of ‘Lord Chainsaw.’ Beam repeatedly saved Denji throughout the movie and played a crucial role in the final fight against Reze.
Beam, also known as the Shark Devil, has the ability to swim through solid objects, using this power to stay hidden from Denji. He can also transform into a huge shark monster with surprisingly fast running speed and powerful jaws. Although he lost to the Bomb Devil, Beam later assisted Chainsaw Man in the final battle against the Typhoon Devil, acting as his mount and helping secure victory.
Aki Hayakawa – Special Division Hunter
A Regular Human Who Can Keep Up With All The Devils, Hybrids, And Fiends
- Debut: Chapter 3 (Manga) Episode 2 (Anime)
- Voiced by: Shogo Sakata (Japanese) Reagan Murdock (English)
Aki Hayakawa stands out as a compelling character in Chainsaw Man because he’s a normal human working as a Public Safety Devil Hunter in a dangerous world filled with Devils, Hybrids, and Fiends. While already physically fit and quick, especially compared to his old colleagues, he’s further enhanced his abilities through contracts with several Devils, enabling him to fight alongside Reze and even the powerful Typhoon Devil during the story’s peak.
Aki has a deal with the Future Devil that lets him briefly see what’s about to happen, allowing him to dodge danger – a skill that was crucial when he fought the Bomb Devil alone. He’s also a highly skilled swordsman who uses a sword powered by the Angel Devil, capable of inflicting significant damage on other devils. The fact that Aki survived his intense battle with the Bomb Devil with barely a scratch shows just how powerful and capable he is.
Angel – The Angel Devil
Aki’s New Partner Has A Terrifying Ability
- Debut: Chapter 34 (Manga) Episode 11 (Anime)
- Voiced by: Maaya Uchida (Japanese) Casey Mongillo (English)
It’s crucial to understand that Angel isn’t a typical Devil seen in the film. He’s the actual Angel Devil, appearing human because he represents the idea of angels. Makima considers him one of the Special Division’s strongest hunters – second only to Kishibe – and that’s why she pairs him with Aki early on.
The Angel Devil has incredible powers: he can fly, steal years from people’s lives, and even transform those stolen years into deadly weapons like swords and spears. Throughout the story, Aki fights using one of Angel’s katanas, and in the final battle, he manages to defeat Reze by creating a barrage of spears – though he needed Makima’s help to do it.
Typhoon Devil
The Embodiment Of Typhoons And Reze’s Only Ally
- Debut: Chapter 41 (Manga) Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc (Anime)
- Voiced by: Eri Kitamura (Japanese) Reshel Mae (English)
I recently saw a really interesting new character appear in The Reze Arc – the Typhoon Devil. It’s a massive monster with the power to control storms, and basically, it is the idea of a typhoon made real, able to manipulate wind and water at will.
After Reze eliminates their former ally, the Typhoon Devil teams up with her and remains largely unseen until the climactic battle, where it reveals its immense size and power to help the Bomb Devil. True to its nature, this devil is gigantic and capable of devastating entire city blocks, nearly defeating key characters like Aki and Angel. Ultimately, it took the combined strength of Denji and Beam to defeat this powerful foe.
Reze – The Bomb Devil Hybrid
The Main Antagonist Of The Film Is An Explosive Combatant
- Debut: Chapter 40 (Manga) Episode 12 (Anime)
- Voiced by: Reina Ueda (Japanese) Alexis Tipton (English)
The movie, called Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc, focuses heavily on the character Reze, who turns out to be incredibly powerful. After leading Denji to believe she’s in love with him, she reveals herself as the Bomb Devil hybrid, with a mission to capture the Chainsaw Devil.
Reze is a highly trained Soviet spy, skilled in deception, intelligence, agility, and physical strength – demonstrated by her ability to overpower and kill opponents. However, her most dangerous ability is transforming into the Bomb Devil. As the Bomb Devil, she can create powerful explosives like bombs, grenades, and even guided missiles, using them to defeat many Devil Hunters in the climax of the story. Like other Hybrids, she’s incredibly resilient and can heal from severe injuries by consuming blood. Despite her power, the Bomb Devil has a crucial weakness: water prevents her from detonating her explosives, and Denji exploits this to ultimately defeat her.
Denji – The Chainsaw Devil Hybrid
The Main Character Has No Idea Of How Powerful He Actually Is
- Debut: Chapter 1 (Manga) Episode 1 (Anime)
- Voiced by: Kikunosuke Toya (Japanese) Ryan Colt Levy (English)
I’m so excited to talk about Denji! He’s the main character of Chainsaw Man, and naturally, he’s the star of the movie too. Basically, he merged with Pochita, the Chainsaw Devil, right from the start, which is how he can make chainsaws pop out of anywhere – his hands, feet, even his head! He just pulls a cord in his chest and boom. What’s really interesting, though, is that Denji has no clue just how incredibly strong Pochita actually was. A lot of people who do know are keeping it a secret from him, which adds a whole other layer to the story!
I was pretty surprised when Reze suddenly showed Denji affection – it completely threw him off, and she almost took him out right then and there. But he pulled himself together, fueled up with some blood, and faced her in an epic showdown. Beam gave him a tip about using his chains for mobility, but Denji had a different idea. He turned the Shark Devil into a ride and they teamed up to defeat the Typhoon Devil. Honestly, one of the smartest things Denji did was use his chains to trap Reze in the water, which canceled out her abilities. It was a really clever move from someone who usually just rushes into things without thinking.
Makima – Head Of Tokyo Special Division 4
Denji And Reze Are Nowhere Near Her Power Level
- Debut: Chapter 1 (Manga) Episode 1 (Anime)
- Voiced by: Tomori Kusunoki (Japanese) Suzie Yeung (English)
Though Makima is missing for most of the movie, her return at the end clearly establishes her as the most powerful character, surpassing everyone else – including Reze. The film doesn’t yet explain the source of her strength to Denji or viewers unfamiliar with the manga, but her ability to easily surprise and defeat Reze is a striking display of her power.
It’s easy to see why Makima is so powerful, especially since she leads Tokyo’s Special Division 4. Some viewers might remember when she effortlessly defeated a group of Yakuza members from afar in the first season. If Chainsaw Man gets another season, we’ll likely find out exactly what makes Makima such a threat.
