Pochita and Denji have become an unbreakable team, with Pochita effectively functioning as Denji’s heart right now. Despite encountering numerous hardships, they’ve managed to forge a stronger connection, finding comfort in each other due to their shared difficult pasts; one inhabits Earth while the other resides in Hell.
Subsequently, following a momentous day, the two formed an unbreakable connection that only grew stronger. They both strive tirelessly to fulfill their individual aspirations. Despite occasionally stumbling and finding himself trapped in a difficult situation, Denji, the human driver of the chainsaw-wielding suit, is constantly encouraged by Pochita, who offers him support from the deepest recesses of his heart in “Chainsaw Man“.
The contract that keeps Denji alive
A bond formed by two lonely individuals
Pochita, often depicted as an adorable and loving dog, much like Chainsaw Devil, actually conceals a fierce Devil within. This Devil has the power to devour and eliminate other Devils, making it a formidable enemy that many Devils have perished against in Hell. Despite having multiple conflicting titles such as “Hell’s Hero” and “the Devil most feared by Devils,” Pochita reveals a compassionate side, showcasing a heart full of kindness.
In the unfolding of events, I chanced upon a moment when Pochita, once a menacing devil from the depths of Hell, had transformed into a canine-like figure, seemingly harmless yet still carrying an air of the supernatural. At that juncture in my life, Denji found himself alone, having been deserted by all the adults following his father’s demise. Yet, amidst this desolation, Denji recognized a potential alliance with Pochita, an opportunity that soon became a turning point for both of them.
Although I’m not operating as a charity… This is a mutual agreement. I’ll assist you in return, and therefore, you must reciprocate the favor. I also don’t want to meet an untimely end.
Ever since that pivotal moment, Pochita and Denji have formed an indestructible partnership. They’ve tackled a variety of odd jobs together, eventually venturing into the private sector of Devil hunting to clear the debts accrued by Denji’s father. Along their adventurous path, they’ve faced numerous hardships, but their bond has only grown stronger, with each relying heavily on the other for companionship and support.
Following an encounter with the sinister Zombie Devil, my human existence came to an end as I valiantly struggled to protect myself and Pochita from the relentless zombie horde. In a twist of fate, we were both tossed into a dumpster, where under extraordinary circumstances, Pochita and I forged a pact. In return for gaining access to more of my dreams, Pochita would fuse with my very being, becoming my heart.
How has Pochita motivated Denji?

From the very beginning of the series, Pochita has stood as Denji’s most steadfast ally. Initially, they entered into a contract to save each other, but as time went on, their relationship deepened, and they came to genuinely care for one another. In Denji’s situation, he found in Pochita someone to lean on, as he had been living in isolation from others. On the other hand, Pochita was a feared Devil in Hell, with countless enemies seeking him out; while he did have admirers, he was so powerful that it left him yearning for a simple human touch – a hug.
In other words, once inside Denji’s heart, Pochita consistently offers encouraging advice or aids Denji in finding solutions when he encounters difficulties or feels perplexed. At one instance, after Denji had ingested Power’s blood, Pochita even attempted to persuade Power to join forces with Denji during the fight against Makima. Throughout the story, it seems that Pochita only becomes active during critical moments; however, it’s plausible that Pochita has been observing Denji all along and wishes for him to achieve more of his dreams.
It’d be nice if you could have a normal life and die a normal death. Fulfill my dreams for me.
There might be two interpretations in the agreement between Denji and Pochita. Primarily, Pochita becomes Denji’s heart to sustain his life, enabling him to pursue every dream he has, no matter what it may entail. Moreover, Denji wished for Pochita to experience a normal life and accomplish his own dreams when Denji is gone. Through this pact, they have managed to make their desires a reality; Pochita encourages Denji to live the life he desires, while Denji enables Pochita to exist through him. In simpler terms, the contract ensures that both characters can fulfill their individual aspirations.
In the Control Devil arc, we witness Denji transforming into the Chainsaw Devi, while Pochita strives to live on as Denji might have, having rescued Kobeni from her work predicament. Though an uncommon duo given that devils typically don’t aid humans without some form of repayment, they nurture their relationship, assisting each other in pursuing their aspirations.
- Pochita tried to prevent Denji from learning the truth behind his father’s death, not wanting to traumatize him.
- When Denji and Nayuta’s home burns down, and Denji succeeds in living one of his dreams, Pochita reappears and asks Denji what he dreams of next.
- Pochita made Denji barf up the Snow and Bitterness Devils to help Denji remember his deceased loved ones.
Over the course of the series, Pochita has consistently aided Denji in any manner possible. Moreover, it’s plausible that when Denji transformed into the Chainsaw Devil, it was Pochita’s method of shielding Denji from the harsh truth of finding Nayuta’s decapitated head on the sushi conveyor belt. In essence, this could imply that Pochita was attempting to save Denji from the cruel reality that yet another person he cherished had perished. Given Denji’s previous struggles after Power and Aki’s deaths, this seems to be a protective measure by Pochita. In Chapter 183, we witness Denji succumbing to despair as he comes to terms with the fact that every individual he has loved has passed away. Yet again, like before, Pochita encourages Denji to press on and carry on living.
