This list contains spoilers up to the end of the final war of My Hero Academia
Summary
- Key characters in My Hero Academia become overpowered due to Quirks with drawbacks or assistance from allies.
- Characters like Shinso, Twice, and Toga enhance their abilities through mastering their Quirks.
- Bakugo, All For One, Shigaraki, and Deku exhibit extreme levels of power during critical moments in the story.
In the world of anime storytelling, it’s common for characters to grow stronger as the plot unfolds. However, there are occasionally exceptions who become exceptionally powerful, almost to an unfair degree. For instance, in the series My Hero Academia, several main characters fall into this category, but their paths to such power vary significantly. Some attained this level of strength and ability through their unique quirks, while others benefited from aid provided by their companions.
Although having overpowered characters might seem problematic initially, it can result in a series becoming far more thrilling, dynamic, and tumultuous when these protagonists and antagonists finally clash. To clarify, these are characters from My Hero Academia, who have refined their Quirks and talents throughout time, ultimately becoming exceptionally powerful in combat scenarios.
8. Hitoshi Shinso
Shinso Leans A Valuable Ability Which Turns Him Into A Crucial Asset For The Heroes
- Quirk: Brainwash
In the world of My Hero Academia, nearly every Quirk has some inherent weaknesses to prevent it from becoming overly powerful. For instance, Shinso’s Brainwash Quirk allows him to control a person’s body but not make them speak. This limitation could have hindered his ability to extract crucial information from captured villains during his missions.
In a reasonable manner, Shinso’s predicament was comprehensible, yet it turned out that just before the climactic battle, the sullen pupil disclosed he had honed his ability to the point where he could compel his objectives to speak. Remarkably, he employed this skill to command the colossal mutant called Gigantomachia by imitating All For One’s voice. Although it might seem like a minor improvement, the possibilities of how he can exploit it are boundless, thereby making Shinso an exceptionally powerful hero due to his upgraded Quirk.
7. Twice
Twice Lets His Clones Run Rampant In The Sad Man’s Parade
- Quirk: Double
Much like Toga, Twice has struggled with his Quirk, which generates duplicates of whatever he touches. This has led him to question whether he himself is the original or just another duplicate that may vanish eventually. Consequently, Twice approaches the use of his Quirk cautiously in early storylines, given its past impact on his mental health.
When the League of Villains clashes with the Meta Liberation Army, Twice determines it’s the perfect moment for him to let loose, both mentally and through his clones. By launching what he terms the Sad Man’s Parade, Twice inundated an entire city with his clones, leaving the MLA at a significant disadvantage due to their inferior numbers. Despite Twice not participating in the climactic battle, nobody could have foreseen such immense power from him, given his playful and cheerful demeanor.
6. Himiko Toga
Toga Masters Her Quirk, Enabling Her To Steal Other People’s Quirks
- Quirk: Transform
Growing up, Toga was often embarrassed about her unique ability that necessitated the consumption of blood for her mental stability. As the narrative unfolds, Toga has learned to control her Quirk effectively, enabling her to assume the likeness of others upon drinking their blood. Initially, she utilized this power primarily for clandestine operations, but as she became more adept at wielding it, her usage evolved.
During her battle against Curious, Toga managed not just to imitate Uraraka’s appearance, but also her Zero Gravity power. She utilized this ability to squash Curious and her followers into the ground. However, it was in the climactic arc where things truly escalated. Toga transformed herself to resemble Twice and employed his Quirk to construct an entire force for the heroes to confront. The formerly meek and hesitant villain from the League of Villains eventually turned into a major focus for the heroes after she unlocked the full power of her Quirk.
5. Dabi
Dabi’s Blueflame Quirk Turns Him Into A Ticking Time Bomb
- Quirk: Blueflame
For much of the narrative, Dabi is portrayed as a solitary figure who usually stays hidden rather than revealing himself openly. He occasionally flaunts his potent Blueflame Quirk, but it takes time for viewers to grasp the full extent of Dabi’s destructive capabilities when he fully unleashes them. It’s during Dabi’s dance and a heartfelt clash with his father that this villain gradually transforms into an indomitable beast.
During the climactic battle, my anger within was at its peak, causing my Blueflame Quirk to spin wildly out of control, making me resemble a time bomb ready to detonate. I was prepared to sacrifice myself and consume everything around me in flames. Given my destructive potential in this state, the heroes deemed it essential to focus their assault on me β a wise decision, as any explosion from me would have ended the war before it had begun.
4. All For One
By Using Rewind, All For One Turns Into An Absurdly Powerful Demon Lord
- Quirk: All For One / Arsenal Of Stolen Quirks
Given the immense arsenal of potent Quirks within him, All For One initially appeared as a highly formidable villain in the story, yet this power level barely scratched his full potential. In a strategic move to amplify his strength further, All For One resorted to using a fragment of Eri’s Rewind Quirk, enabling him to transform his body into a younger, remarkably potent form. This transformation allowed him to single-handedly face off against an entire army of heroes without the slightest exertion.
By the story’s end, All Might wasn’t at his peak strength anymore, making it challenging for many characters to challenge All For One once he started using Rewind. However, this situation presents a complex issue because the more harm All For One suffers, the quicker Rewind takes effect, eventually reducing him to an infantile state. Yet, there’s no denying that he was incredibly powerful when he fought as a younger character.
3. Katsuki Bakugo
Bakugo’s Awakened Quirk Ability Allows Him To Move At Lightning Speed While Dishing Out Damage
- Quirk: Explosion
From the start of my journey at UA, I’ve made it clear that I’m one of the most powerful students here, and it’s all thanks to my Explosion Quirk. This incredible ability lets me unleash an overwhelming amount of destruction in a flash. As the story unfolds, I learn the weighty responsibilities that come with being a hero, but I also discover innovative ways to harness my Quirk’s potential. Eventually, during my epic showdown with Shigaraki, I unlock a hidden aspect of my power β a testament to both my strength and creativity!
As I stood there, energy blasts erupting from my very being and a state-of-the-art armor adorning my frame, I felt invincible during this climactic part of our tale. To be frank, I became so powerful that even the notorious All For One struggled to keep me at bay β a testament to just how far this once-arrogant student has grown since the early days of our shared journey.
2. Tomura Shigaraki
Shigaraki Can Destroy Entire Cities With A Single Touch
- Quirk: Decay / All For One
Observing the progression of events in this series, it’s no surprise that Shigaraki, the primary antagonist, continues to grow stronger as the story unfolds. Yet, the extent of destruction this chaotic villain can inflict is nothing short of astonishing. At first, his Quirk, Decay, was limited to affecting a single individual. However, during his confrontation with Re-Destro, Shigaraki unlocked the full potential of his power, transforming it into a tool that can reduce entire landscapes to rubble with a mere touch.
Following Dr. Karaki’s experiments, Shigaraki would inherit the All For One Quirk from his mentor. This empowered him with a multitude of additional abilities, making his already formidable Decay even more overpowering. As a result, Shigaraki grew to such an extent that the heroes were compelled to engage him in battle on a floating arena during the final war. Given that he had the potential to level an entire city if he remained on ground level, this provides an inkling of just how incredibly strong Shigaraki eventually became.
1. Deku
From Quirkless Nobody To The Hero Who Saved Japan
- Quirk: One For All / Float / Blackwhip / Smokescreen / Danger Sense / Smokescreen / Gearshift / Fa Jin
It’s hard to imagine now, given how Deku’s arsenal of Quirks has grown since he embarked on his hero training journey, but believe it or not, there was a time when he didn’t possess any Quirk at all. However, after he starts learning to be a hero, he acquires an increasing number of them. One For All initially provided Deke with an impressive strength enhancement, but during the Joint Training arc, he meets and gradually absorbs the Quirks of other bearers of One For All, each of which endows him with more powerful abilities that prove invaluable in his quest to defeat Shigaraki and All For One.
Through continuous improvement and perfecting each new power, Deku instills dread in any villains who challenge him as the story progresses. Later on, he effortlessly defeated numerous villains without help and was the only one capable of inflicting meaningful damage to Shigaraki during the climactic battle. Watching his growth in strength and self-assuredness has been captivating throughout the series, and there’s no question that he becomes incredibly powerful once the final war begins, surpassing even All Might, a remarkable achievement indeed.
